Employable in the US and Canada, I've enjoyed working as a Field Engineer, as an Architect, Principal Engineer, and Production Engineer; I tend to find myself drawn to the automation roles. Self-healing, auto-repairing, autonomous deployment, CI/CD magic, whether building mobile phones in ARM, mobile Kiosks in Taxi Cabs on MIPS, deploying Python-based stacks in AWS EKS (LLM or otherwise), the fun seems to be making it all automatic and smoother, faster -- then creating and delivering a training course about it! I'd like to spend more time in the sharing, cross-training, bringing younger developers up while keeping myself current, more golang and CI/CD and developer efficiency, k8s (with fewer layers/façades). I've got a word-salad of buzzwords if it paints my history: low-level FibreChannel, Unix (since 1990), Linux (since 1994), C & C++ (since 1988, not much recently), RPC/JNI/RMI/CORBA/protobuf/thrift/GRPC, Embedded MIPS & ARM (cross-compiling), Really old IP protocols (LDAP, NTP, DNS, (static)DHCP, Kerberos, NIS, RADIUS), SAN (SCSI-on-FC), Software packaging (RPM, DEB, SSO, PKG, spk), mass distribution (Satellite Server, PKG spools, YUM). Lately more Go or Golang, 2-stage-docker, Bazel (why rebuild?), container technology (FB's custom, Apple's custom, OCI). Brief MLOps for LLMs. Rust-curious. International experience: UK, China, Korea, USA, Canada; brief work in Ireland, Germany, France.
