Abdalkarim Mohtasib

Currently, I am a Machine Learning Scientist at Zebra Technologies with a focus on developing and implementing Machine Learning and Reinforcement Learning models and algorithms to solve real world problems. I have an MSc degree in Computer Science with distinction from the University of Essex. Also, I am doing a PhD degree in Computer Science where I have developed and applied different machine learning, deep learning, and reinforcement learning algorithms with application to robotics. During my PhD, I have published two papers, I have one paper under review, and I have two more papers under development. In addition, I have finished writing the main parts of my PhD thesis and intend to submit it by January 2022. My interest in AI has started in 2014 when I had an AI module during my MSc degree at the University of Essex. In this module, we have learned about different AI-related topics. This has developed a passion for perusing PhD research in fields related to AI. So, I have started my PhD research by investigating different types of machine learning and deep learning algorithms and models with application to robotics. Then, I have focused my research on developing and implementing novel reinforcement learning algorithms. These experiences have increased my passion for data science, especially big data. So, I have started learning about data science and big data, and the tools needed to deal with it like (Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark, Apache Mahout, MapReduce, Hive, Yarn, SQL, NoSQL, …). I realized that I need to have experience in cloud computing to be able to deal with big data. So, I have learned and developed good experience in GCP, BigQuery, and QwikLab. These experiences in Data Science and Could Computing have led me to be an associate demonstrator for the Big Data Module in the School of Computer Science at the University of Lincoln. Also, in the associate demonstrator role in the School of Computer Science at the University of Lincoln, I am responsible for helping in delivering the lab sessions for the Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Advanced Machine Learning modules. All these experiences make me very confident about my depth knowledge in areas of AI, Data Science, and Cloud Computing.
