About this role
This role is an early engineering position on a small product team focused on chat and real-time features, working closely with founding stakeholders to shape core systems that will directly impact user experience and product direction.
What youll do
- Design and implement core chat and real-time features for the product.
- Collaborate with a small, cross-functional founding team to define technical direction.
- Build reliable, scalable systems and iterate quickly based on user feedback.
- Participate in architecture and design discussions to balance short-term delivery with long-term maintainability.
- Own components end-to-end, including implementation, testing, and monitoring.
What Upside is looking for
- Compensation: $135k–$155k base plus equity.
- Equity: approximately 0.5%–1.5%.
- Location: remote within the U.S.; must be a U.S. citizen or Green Card holder — Upside cannot sponsor visas.
- Proven track record delivering production software in real-time or chat-related systems (experience level appropriate to an early/founding engineering role).
- Strong engineering fundamentals and practical experience across the stack relevant to building scalable, reliable services.
