Founding Backend Engineer

Scape is hiring a Founding Backend Engineer to join the first ten hires in Stockholm and help shape the product, culture, and technical direction from day one. This role matters because the founding team will own high-impact problems across LLM flows and infrastructure, driving product quality, scalability, and long-term strategy.

What you'll do

• Join the founding team and operate with founder-level ownership and agency.
• Tackle whatever the highest-priority problem is, from database migrations to context engineering.
• Build and iterate on LLM flows, including context engineering, prompts, and tool integrations.
• Lead infrastructure work focused on GCP migration, scalability, and performance.
• Make decisions without predefined tasks, aligning through obsession and execution.
• Help maintain a continuous hiring pipeline and contribute to early team culture and standards.

What Scape is looking for

• Extensive, hands-on coding experience — demonstrated ability matters more than credentials.
• Strong side-project portfolio that shows depth, curiosity, and sustained technical work.
• Demonstrated obsession and high agency through intentional life choices and ownership.
• Experience at fast-growing startups is preferred and valued.
• Open to 1–2 super-senior candidates who are motivated by early-stage startup work.

• Willingness to work closely with a small founding group and help hire the next wave of teammates.
