We just announced our $3M Pre-Seed. Watch our — launch video.
As an Engineering Manager I at Ophelia, you’ll play a key role in developing innovative, compliant solutions to support our mission of treating opioid use disorder through telehealth. You'll be a hands-on technical leader and manage a team of 2-5 full-stack software engineers who build and maintain our core web applications written in Typescript, React, and Firebase on GCP. The estimated split between hands-on code and leadership responsibilities is 50-70% hands-on to 50-30% leadership. You’ll ensure that your team maintains the highest quality standards across all projects, improve code architecture, and foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Your work will have a direct impact on patients, clinicians, and our ability to scale.
In this role, you’ll mentor and develop the engineers on your team, promote a culture of innovation and excellence, and be a tech lead who works side-by-side with them through the full product cycle—from inception to results—making direct code contributions and taking responsibility for your team’s work quality and delivery goals. You’ll collaborate closely with your Product and Design counterparts, as well as various cross-functional teams, including clinicians and non-technical stakeholders, to ensure our products meet the needs of both users and the business. Flexibility will be key, as you will help tackle ambiguous challenges in a fast-evolving, growth-stage company.
Other responsibilities include continuously improving our systems and team processes, while advocating for projects that help improve code architecture, quality, and performance and drive business results, through insightful use of AI technologies and traditional approaches. With support from your Director, peers, and our People team, you’ll manage the performance evaluation of your team members, including promotions, performance improvement plans, and, when necessary, termination. Your role also involves staying up-to-date on emerging industry trends and technologies, including but not limited to AI in our products and development processes, bringing new ideas to drive innovation in product design and development.
Together, we will help hard-to-reach individuals treat their opioid dependence. While direct experience in this treatment area is not mandatory, knowledge of the healthcare space, including understanding health outcomes, benchmarks, systems, and regulatory compliance (HIPAA), is highly beneficial.
Responsibilities
Exhibit strong technical leadership by providing input on the team’s roadmap, feedback on project scope—seeking to deliver incremental wins—and work estimates to ensure the team reliably meets its delivery goals. Uphold a high technical bar through clear technical designs, opinionated architecture choices, thorough code reviews, and good test coverage.
Mentor and develop the engineers on your team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement, while cultivating a positive and inclusive team environment aligned with Ophelia’s core values.
Develop across the stack, with an emphasis on increasing capabilities of front-end apps, delivering impact wherever the team needs. Our core technologies are Typescript, React, and Firebase (e.g., Firestore, Authentication, Remote Config) in Google Cloud Platform.
Lead with flexibility and adaptability to navigate ambiguous, new challenges in a growth-stage company, learning from the past, asking questions, and rapidly evolving team approaches and focus as business needs change.
Collaborate cross-functionally in both sourcing new ideas and implementing improvements from our amazing community of clinicians and our care teams. You’ll be encouraged to ask even “dumb” questions as you work directly with our technical and non-technical teams to build the next generation of our products.
Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies (including AI tooling), and best practices to drive innovation and excellence in product design and implementation.
The company delivers evidence-based, accessible, and judgement-free opioid use disorder care in the privacy of the home through an in-home model.
