About this role

A Better Built World

At Miter, we’re on a mission to help construction contractors build with confidence. If we’re successful, we’ll make it easier and faster to build critical physical infrastructure - roads, bridges, utilities, data centers, housing, etc.

For decades, construction and field services contractors have had to run their businesses on outdated software: clunky, on-premise systems created in the 1980s and 1990s.

That’s where Miter comes in. We’re using AI and embedded payments to rebuild the core HR, finance, and operations systems that underpin our physical economy. Using Miter, contractors like Marathon Electrical, W.J. O’Neil, and Truebeck Construction are building stronger teams, controlling job costs, and accelerating jobsite execution.

This idea is resonating. Since we launched in 2021, we’ve grown to thousands of customers and tens of millions in ARR, making us one of the fastest growing vertical software companies ever. To double-down on our momentum, we’ve raised $50M+ from top investors (Bessemer, Coatue, and Battery) who share our belief that we’re just getting started.

Hybrid vs. Remote Approach:

We believe the magic of Miter comes from working side by side. We also believe in work flexibility. For roles that are listed as hybrid, our approach is 3 days a week in the office giving us the chance to connect, brainstorm, and build stronger relationships. If you live within a reasonable commute to either our New York City or San Francisco offices, we ask that you work in our hybrid approach.

Otherwise, for roles listed as remote or in other cities where we don't have an office location, there is no requirement to work in our hybrid approach. We do travel a few times a year for onboarding, company wide, and team specific offsites!

About the Team & How We Work:

As a Lead Product Designer at Miter, you’ll have significant ownership over the design of core workflows and experiences across our platform. You’ll play a central role in shaping product direction, with the autonomy to identify problems, set priorities, and drive solutions that meaningfully impact how contractors run their businesses.

You’ll work closely with product and engineering to design simple, intuitive experiences on top of complex enterprise systems. We value clarity, speed, and craftsmanship, and expect designers to bring strong product thinking and user-first instincts to every decision.

This role is deeply customer-facing. You’ll spend time with contractors, payroll admins, and field teams to understand real-world workflows and translate that insight into thoughtful, practical design.

What You’ll Do:

  • Own design across multiple product areas, driving end-to-end workflows from problem discovery through execution and iteration

  • Proactively identify usability gaps, workflow friction, and opportunities to simplify complex HR, payroll, and operational experiences

  • Partner closely with Product Managers and Engineers to translate ambiguous problems into clear, intuitive product solutions

  • Conduct user research, customer interviews, and usability testing to ground design decisions in real customer needs

  • Design simple, scalable, and user-friendly experiences for complex B2B SaaS workflows, cutting unnecessary steps and reducing cognitive load

What You’ll Need:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Product Designer working on complex B2B SaaS or enterprise software products

  • Strong product thinking skills with a proven ability to simplify complex workflows and systems

  • Experience conducting user research and speaking directly with customers to inform design decisions

  • A high degree of ownership and initiative—you’re comfortable finding problems, defining scope, and driving solutions independently

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work closely with product and engineering partners

Our Benefits:

  • Competitive Compensation: We offer competitive (well above “market”) salary, commission, and equity packages.

  • Medical Insurance: Comprehensive medical, dental, FSA, vision plans to suit you and your family’s needs.

  • 401(k) Retirement Plan: Company-matched contributions to help you plan for your future.

  • Unlimited PTO: Take the time you need to recharge and be your best self.

  • Parental Leave: Generous 16-week paid leave for all parents, including adoptive and foster parents.

  • Learning & Development: We offer every employee an annual educational allowance to explore external professional development.

  • Office Extras: Snacks, coffee, lunch, and commuter benefits for in-office Mitosaurs.

  • Community: Multiple company-wide and team-specific offsites per year.

Equal Opportunity:

Miter provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetics, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. We are committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce and welcome people from all backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, and abilities.

What you'll do

  • As a Lead Product Designer, you will own design across multiple product areas, driving workflows from problem discovery through execution. You will work closely with product and engineering teams to create intuitive experiences for contractors.

About Miter

💜 Our mission Our mission is to enable contractors to build great teams and increase profits. We measure our success in terms of the cost savings and productivity gains we drive for our customers.  If we’re successful, we’ll make it possible for construction firms to build more with less, driving positive second-order effects on housing and infrastructure costs and third-order effects on economic growth. 🌟 Our values At Miter, our most valuable assets are our people and culture, and our talent philosophy is to hire a lean, diverse team of incredibly talented people, pay them well, and get out of their way.  We’re deliberate about building a culture where anyone can do their best work and build meaningful and lasting relationships. Our values reflect what we believe in and how we work: * Win as a team: We’re determined and competitive, but we enjoy winning as a team far more than we enjoy winning as individuals. We invest in each other and love seeing each other succeed. * Build the blueprint: We simplify complex problems in writing to create clarity. Clarity aligns our teams, sharpens our decision-making, and accelerates execution.  * More wood, fewer arrows: We prioritize ruthlessly and throw our weight into only the projects that matter. We finish what we start. * Give a damn: We’re determined to leave our mark and hold ourselves and each other to high standards. We’re craftspeople at heart, and we enjoy the rigor and discipline required to perform at a high level. * Start with the customer: We are voracious students of our customers’ problems. We celebrate only when our customers celebrate. Remote vs in-office work We believe that great people can do great work from the office or from home. Roughly half of Mitosaurs work from our SF and NYC offices, with the rest working remotely. Each day at 2pm PT, we have “Mitogames”, an optional collaborative game-playing session on Google Meet. Miter is remote-friendly, but we believe that the best relationships are built in-person. We hold all-company offsites 2x per year, and we encourage Mitosaurs to meet and work IRL as often as is reasonable. Life is too short not to love the people you work with. Work/life balance We’re a fast-paced, high-performance culture, which means that most Mitosaurs work hard. If work/life balance is a top criteria in your job search, or if you never want to work over 40 hours/week, Miter probably isn’t the right fit. Miter is a great fit for those who take pride in their craft and want to accelerate their career growth. That said: * Mitosaurs are evaluated based on output and results, not input or hours worked. Miter is a high-trust culture, which means we trust Mitosaurs to work where, when, and how they want.  * Miter should never interfere with health and happiness. Family, friends, mental health, and physical fitness should take priority over Miter. * We offer unlimited vacation and encourage Mitosaurs to take all the time they need to perform at a high level.
