Founding Engineer

Build and own the consumer experience for a new category-defining fintech – taking product features from idea to production for families across the country.

About the Role

Halfmore is building the financial operating system for families. We’re looking for a founding engineer to shape the core user experience across our mobile and web platforms and help define our engineering culture from day one.

You’ll be an early member of the team, working directly with the founders to design, build, and ship product features end-to-end. This role is ideal for someone who loves consumer products, has strong product and design intuition, and wants real ownership – not just tickets.

Our users rely on us for workflows that are legally complex but must feel effortless and trustworthy.

What You’ll Do

Design, build, and evolve the front-end architecture for our mobile app (React Native) and future web platform (React).

Own product features end-to-end – from concept and technical design through deployment, iteration, and optimization.

Partner closely with the CTO and CEO to influence technical decisions and the product roadmap.

Build simple, intuitive, and reliable experiences for families managing payroll, compliance, and long-term investing for their children.

Lead development of our consumer-facing application with a focus on scalability, robustness, and polish.

Help establish engineering best practices and contribute to Halfmore’s long-term engineering culture.

What We’re Looking For

3+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally with React Native, React/Next.js, or Node.js.

Strong frontend and product intuition – you can translate complex flows into clear, elegant user experiences.

Experience building consumer-facing applications in fast-moving environments.

Comfort leveraging AI tools to accelerate development and iterate quickly.

High ownership mindset, strong collaboration skills, and a kind, mission-driven approach to work.

Ability to work several days per week in person from our Redwood City, CA office.

Bonus: experience with A/B testing, experimentation, or product optimization.
