Role Purpose
The Crane Bulk Manager, Mechanical is responsible in ensuring delivery of the highest quality equipment maintenance, repair and technical services while meeting all applicable standards and requirements in terms of safety, quality, timelines and cost. The Crane Bulk Manager provides direction to the Foremen and Longshore personnel to meet short- and long-term production and maintenance goals related to asset maintenance, efficiency, and profitability. The focus of this role is on DP World Fraser Surrey’s ship to shore cranes and Liquid Bulk Facility but the resources within this department also support facilities maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure that the requirements of the working shift are fully met in an efficient and safe manner in accordance with safety regulations and health and safety policies.
Oversee the overall efficiency of crane mechanical operations, including coordinating the various activities of different groups to maximize the efficient utilization of manpower, equipment and resources and ensure the safe, reliable and cost-effective operation of all equipment and assets.
Enable the best possible level of communications within the shift team.
Manage personnel, including hiring, training, discipline and off-boarding, to ensure that the Company’s needs and requirements are adhered to.
Ensure safe working practices are adhered to and promote safety in all aspects of the maintenance process.
Drive a performance management culture within the team ensuring that staff meet their targets in line with the business needs.
Positively advance agreed upon initiatives, propose new initiatives and adopt a sense of continuous improvement.
Knowledge & Qualifications
A university degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required.
An excellent manager of people with well-formed motivational skills, including solid negotiation, influencing, change management and labour relations skills.
Exceptional communication and organizational skills, including the ability to work with all departments and levels.
Sound judgement and analytical thinking that enables decision making, ability to manage projects and prioritize and manage timelines.
Ability to build and maintain good working relationships and achieve buy in and ownership to quality standards/ initiatives.
Comprehensive understanding of container terminal equipment and maintenance requirements, this includes thorough knowledge of modern reliability and maintenance best practices, including IT-based asset management systems.
Good working knowledge, including troubleshooting skills with diesel engines, gearboxes and hydraulics, and training or general experience in structural maintenance.
- Advanced computer skills, including MS Office, computerized maintenance management systems and industrial control software.
Experience working in a safety-focused environment with excellent understanding of Health and Safety legislation and the ability to effectively communicate these values to the workforce.
Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Manager or Supervisor in a fast-moving Maintenance or Engineering environment, preferably in a unionized setting, where you have developed superior mechanical and electrical aptitude.
- Fluent in English.
- Previous Canadian work experience or experience working directly with Canadian industries.

DP World Fraser Surrey is a large, multi-purpose marine terminal located on the banks for the Fraser River in the greater Vancouver area of British Columbia, Canada. Since 1962, our terminal has been serving the needs of our customers with our variety of services including container, breakbulk, project cargo, forest products and bulk.
