We just announced our $3M Pre-Seed. Watch our — launch video.
We are looking for a Head of Legal with 10+ years of employment-based immigration law experience to lead and scale Alma's entire legal service delivery function (exception: candidates who are currently a partner may be considered with fewer years). You are not a General Counsel — you are the person who owns the quality, performance, and accountability of every case that goes out the door. This is an executive seat reporting directly to the CEO at a venture-backed, AI-native immigration firm that is explicitly building to disrupt the immigration industry. We would like to see candidates who have done client development, have a proven book of business, a track record of building and managing attorney teams, business execution skills, and genuine AI fluency
Define and enforce the "Alma way" of legal excellence across ~20 attorneys and paralegals — setting standards for drafting, client communication, RFE responses, and case strategy while continuously improving approval rates.
Build and scale a high-performing legal team: own hiring, onboarding, coaching, and performance management for both attorneys and paralegals, developing them into proactive client partners.
Own the full client escalation lifecycle — intake, triage, resolution, and post-mortem — turning escalations into systemic improvements and keeping volume low.
Drive business development and client retention, bringing in new clients and ensuring existing relationships are sticky enough that clients follow you, not just your firm's brand.
Partner cross-functionally with the CEO, Head of Operations, and Head of Product to surface tooling gaps, translate regulatory shifts into operational adjustments, and feed legal intelligence into Alma's AI-native platform.
Alma is a LegalTech startup transforming immigration by combining seasoned attorneys with AI/ML into a comprehensive platform and dedicated legal team, streamlining immigration for individuals and businesses; backed by leading VC firms.
