Overall Job Responsibility: 

Reporting to the Manager of the Oral Health Department, the Denturist works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide ongoing clinical dental care to the community through the dental clinic in accordance with the Oral Health Protocol, (2018) or as current. The Denturist will work to serve WECHU’s oral health clients including our OSDCP (Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program) clients in both the Windsor and Leamington offices.

Key areas of Responsibility include but are not limited to:

  • Designing denture treatment plans for clients
  • Measuring patient’s jaws to determine the size and shape of dentures required
  • Taking of impressions
  • Designing and constructing partial and full dentures
  • Fitting and adjusting new dentures
  • Rebasing and relining dentures
  • Altering and repairing dentures
  • Adhering to Infection Prevention and Control Practices (IPAC) to ensure patient safety.
  • Ensuring efficient flow of clients
  • Working with oral health team to provide clients with access to social/health/community resources, and collaborates with the partner agencies as appropriate
  • Respecting and valuing the diversity of clients and targeted communities
  • Preserving confidentiality of clients
  • Documentation and charting

 

Position Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Denturism from a recognized college or university.
  • Registered in good standing with the College of Denturists of Ontario (CDO).
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in an active dental practice is required.
  • Knowledge of the eligibility requirements for publicly funded dental programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and interdependently in a multi-disciplinary team environment, in which the skills and responsibilities of each team member are recognized and respected.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the diverse and complex health and social needs of the community members, particularly those experiencing social inequity and discrimination.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.  Fluency in languages other than English is an asset.
  • Familiarity with government legislation, such as occupational health and safety, and privacy legislation.
  • Available to work in various locations and under flexible hours.
  • Establishes and maintains respectful and collaborative professional and ethically sound relationships with all clients, colleagues, and partner organizations.
  • Adheres to principles, standards, professional/personal boundaries and codes of conduct established by the College of Denturists of Ontario and organizational policies.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Immunizations and TB screening as per WECHU policies.
  • Satisfactory vulnerable sector police clearance
  • Current BLS (CPR Level HCP) certification as a minimum.
  • Provide and maintain current vulnerable sector police clearance.
  • Ability to work weekend and evenings as required by the program.
  • A valid Ontario driver’s licence, access to a reliable motor vehicle during working hours and 2 million dollars in liability insurance.
  • Must obtain and maintain in good standing professional malpractice liability insurance with a minimum coverage of $2 million per occurrence and $5 million in the aggregate, as well as all other insurance as required by the College of Denturists of Ontario (CDO).

 

The hourly rate for services shall be CAD $50 per clinical hour.
