JOB SUMMARY 

The Manufacturing Manager – CNC Department is responsible for leading and managing all CNC machining operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role oversees CNC leadership and machinists, and is accountable for meeting production schedules, quality standards, cost targets, and continuous improvement objectives. The Manufacturing Manager works closely with Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Maintenance to optimize machining processes and support business goals.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

CNC Operations & Production Management

  • Oversee day-to-day CNC machining operations, including milling, turning, multi-axis machining, and related processes
  • Ensure production schedules are met through effective planning, staffing, and capacity management
  • Monitor and manage performance metrics such as safety, quality, delivery, productivity, scrap, and uptime
  • Troubleshoot production, quality, and equipment issues to minimize downtime and improve throughput

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop CNC leadership and machinists
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Support hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management for CNC personnel
  • Encourage skills development, cross-training, and succession planning

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and machining best practices
  • Drive adherence to quality standards, inspection requirements, and process controls
  • Partner with Quality on root cause analysis and corrective actions for nonconformances
  • Support internal and external audits as required

Process Improvement & Technical Excellence

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on cycle time reduction, setup optimization, and scrap reduction
  • Collaborate with Engineering on CNC programming, fixturing, tooling, and process development
  • Support new product introductions and machining process validation
  • Drive standard work, setup documentation, and best practices across the CNC department

Equipment & Resource Management

  • Partner with Maintenance to ensure proper upkeep, calibration, and reliability of CNC equipment
  • Provide input on capital equipment purchases, tooling needs, and technology upgrades
  • Ensure effective use of ERP/MRP systems for production tracking and reporting

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Planning, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations leadership
  • Communicate production performance, risks, and improvement initiatives to plant management
  • Support company-wide operational goals and strategic initiatives

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Is responsible for direct supervision of department employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Knowledge or experience working in an inclusive work environment, particularly those persons with disabilities.
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in the manufacturing industry. 
  • A minimum of 5 years’ supervisory experience.
  • Advanced computer literacy in Windows environment including MS Office experience with office 2016.
  • Strong leadership skills; Able to make independent decisions based on input.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Able to plan and request resources based on a production forecast.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions based on data.
  • Excellent at reading and interpreting Aerospace blue print documents.
  • Willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges.
  • Ability to provide direction and guidance.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English through verbal communication, American Sign Language, or adaptive technology

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 10 years’ experience with aerospace drawings, specifications, and manufacturing or equivalent education/experience.
  • 7 years supervisory experience.

SALARY DESCRIPTION

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only.  Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. Skills Inc. is a self-supporting Social Enterprise and is organized as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit. We have three lines of business; Aerospace Manufacturing, Aerospace Finishing, and Business Solutions, that operate in 2 locations. We accomplish our mission three ways; direct hire, vocational programs and services, and as a resource to the community.

Salary Range: $85,000-$125,000
