JOB SUMMARY

Cultural and Heritage Programs is responsible for multi-disciplinary arts centres, heritage and museum facilities and structures, the delivery of arts, heritage and museum public programming and events, volunteer program development, audience development, and exhibits and research.

You are responsible for the supervision of staff, volunteers, facilities and activities within Production Services at the Meridian Theatre/Shenkman Arts Center. This includes ensuring the clients’ requirements are met during engagements; the supervision of technicians and stagehands; training, scheduling, supervision and coaching of stage crew volunteers; the recruitment, training, supervision and evaluation of stage door attendants; the development and implementation of training programs specific to the live entertainment industry; and general administration of the production area.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 3 year university degree specializing in Technical Theatre and Production or related field

Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated success in a similar position performing tasks related to Production Management, Lighting Design, Audio Design, Stage Management, Pyrotechnic Special Effects, Rigging

Demonstrated ability to train in a volunteer environment

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Current Special Effects Pyrotechnician operator certificate with Natural Resources Canada
Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates

KNOWLEDGE

  • Leadership principles and theory
  • Adult learning and training methods 
  • Expert knowledge of health and safety and other legislation, including those specific to the live entertainment industry
  • Working knowledge of design and set construction
  • Knowledge of production administration and management, stage management, theatrical carpentry, counterweight flying systems, lighting and audio systems, atmospheric systems, project management and procurement practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel and in CADD design programs
  • Must possess the training, experience and knowledge to organize the work and its performance
  • Must be familiar with all applicable health and safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the work place, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and city policies and procedures

  • Language Requirement: Designated Bilingual – specific level of language proficiency: French: oral, reading, writing English: oral, reading, writing Candidates who do not meet language requirements will be required to participate in training.       
  • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check (Level 2) with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.    
  • You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
