Role Description

The U.S. Equine Business Unit focuses on delivering maximum value to customers through portfolio-based solutions and by building and sustaining strong partnerships. Beyond medicines, services, and expertise, the organization deploys targeted activities to support customer needs, including a direct sales field force, aligned technical services teams, and value-added solutions that differentiate Zoetis from competitors.

The Equine Specialist is responsible for managing the Zoetis Equine business with distributors, veterinarians, dealers, and horse owners within the assigned territory. A strong understanding of the equine market and its dynamics is highly advantageous. This position requires regular travel, including overnight stays. The ideal location for this role is New York or Pennsylvania.

Position Responsibilities

  • Call on equine and mixed animal veterinarians, dealers, and distributor representatives, effectively articulating and differentiating Zoetis products from competitors

  • Deliver educational training using strong presentation and selling skills at customer sites and producer seminars

  • Build and influence relationships across key trade channels, including veterinarians, distributors, OTC dealers, farm personnel, and university personnel

  • Collaborate closely with equine distribution partners to build strong relationships and drive sales results within the territory

  • Manage a broad geographic area and diverse customer base to achieve sales targets, increase market share, and meet business objectives

  • Build customer trust through reliability, credibility, and consistent follow-up

  • Execute territory planning and priority setting through data analysis, strategic planning, resource utilization, and execution of business plans

  • Demonstrate strong technical and commercial knowledge, including general equine industry knowledge, in-depth understanding of the Zoetis equine portfolio, and financial awareness of the local customer base

  • Collaborate effectively as a team player, sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues

  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) or equivalent experience required

  • Master’s degree in Animal Science or a related field preferred

  • Minimum experience requirements by level:

    • Associate Equine Specialist: 6 months of equine-related experience

    • Equine Specialist: 2 years of equine-related experience

    • Senior Equine Specialist: 8 years of equine-related experience

  • Animal health experience and knowledge of the dairy, beef, or equine industries preferred

  • Ability and willingness to travel overnight approximately 50% of the time, including some weekends

Technical Skill Requirements

  • In-depth product and disease knowledge

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word

Physical Position Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license required

  • Willingness to drive to customer locations across the defined geography, including farms, clinics, and dealer facilities

  • Ability to work on equine farms

  • Willingness to work directly with animals, including husbandry, treatment support, and product administration education

Compensation & Benefits

The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $54,000 – $111,000, determined by role, level, and location. Individual compensation within this range is based on work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

This position is eligible for short-term incentive compensation.
