The base salary listed is a range. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others). 

In addition to the base salary, this position is eligible for a bonus, providing the opportunity to earn additional compensation.

Position Summary 


The Senior Buyer will have direct and indirect responsibility for planning and purchasing materials needed for production. Responsibilities may include selecting and managing vendors, buying commodities, developing strategies to manage expenses, and negotiating supplier contracts. Success in this position requires an understanding of production systems, market dynamics, sound business judgment, negotiating skills, and the ability manage business relationships with suppliers and internal customers. This role is based at Zinpro Corporate Headquarters in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

 

Essential Functions  

  • Participates in the production planning process to understand material requirements.
  • Develops accurate budgeting for purchased materials; drives productivity and optimizes spend; tracks cost trends.
  • Negotiates supply contracts.
  • Manages supplier delivery to ensure availability of all materials needed for manufacturing.
  • Manages supplier quality program and quality of materials to mitigate risk; Audits vendors to ensure compliance with Zinpro’s ISO standards.
  • Evaluates performance and hosts a Quarterly Business Review (QBR) with strategic vendors.
  • Maintain an awareness of current market trends and developments to take advantage of all opportunities offered to improve quality of service. Obtain recommendations from suppliers for alternate sources, if applicable.
  • Utilize SAP/MRP and direction from management to plan the procurement of materials for production while monitoring and controlling inventory levels.
  • Maintain and enter purchase orders, compile purchasing reports, and process supplier and vendor invoices.
  • Works with Supply Chain leadership to ensure alignment to Zinpro’s operational and strategic objectives. Report relevant market changes to management.
  • Conducts visits to Zinpro facilities to understand production needs and limitations, and to ensure understanding of material requirements, packaging, and related matters.
  • Works with Operations leadership to develop accurate material specifications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications  

Minimum Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or related field
  • 5 years of experience purchasing in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to analyze data and information to drive business activities
  • ERP Experience

Preferred:

  • 3+ years of experience sourcing in a manufacturing environment
  • SAP experience
  • Professional certifications such as Lean, Six Sigma, or APICS

Work Environment and Physical Requirements  

The work environment characteristics are those consistent with a standard office environment.

Positions in this class typically require: typing, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Schedule Requirements  

This position is expected to work within core business hours and occasionally requires participation in after-hours work with domestic and international stakeholders.


Travel Requirements 

This position is expected to travel approximately 10-15% of the time, primarily to Zinpro manufacturing facilities. Additional travel to visit suppliers or attend conferences will be required as needed and includes the possibility of international travel.
