ZF North America Inc. has job openings (multiple) for the position of Systems Requirements Engineer based out of its location in Northville, MI.

 

Job Duties:  Responsible for requirements management within development projects for electronic components (e.g.,  Power Inverter; Power Control Units) used in powertrain systems of Hybrid or Electric vehicles; Analyze customer requirements & derive them into system requirements for definition of components & system architecture and breakdown of system requirements placed on sub-systems / engineering domains; Support requirements discussions with customer; Identify components required for implementation of system requirements; Specification of cooperation of different components / sub-systems for implementation of technical functions; Specification of common interfaces & dependencies between components / engineering domains; Review, manage, negotiate customer requirements & agreements on technical system requirements in DOORS & obtain customer sign-off; Ensure linked customer & system requirements & update requirements per project progress or changes; Define, align, document, review & release system requirements; Support development team by definition of system architecture consistent with technical requirements; Collaborate with development to create system FMEA & determine significant/critical characteristics; Serve as technical contact for requirements related topics; Support Safety Manager to achieve required functional safety goals; Prepare risk & impact analysis based on given requirements & changes; Manage system configuration definition & releases to ensure hardware & software levels compatible & specified; Discuss, develop, link software, mechanic & hardware requirements with domain coordinators to ensure requirements traceability; Identify, develop alternatives to problems or schedule delays to resolve & recommend ways to recover lost project time; Provide progress status updates; Collaborate with hardware, software & systems engineers to implement systems engineering strategies based on V-Model principles; Support product testing in regards to requirements related topics; Support troubleshooting & analysis tasks; Support beta testing, pre-production testing & final product implementation; Perform feasibility studies for requirements or change requests; and Participate in audits & ensure compliance with ZF Quality Management System requirements (ZF QMS) which includes IATF 16949, Automotive Spice and Customer Specific Requirements (CSR). A hybrid (in-office and telecommute) work schedule is available.

 

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering field, plus 3 years of experience in engineering (or related) occupations for product development, and demonstrated experience with: Requirements management (including involvement in customer requirements allocation, decomposing of higher level requirements and assigning them to lower level components or functions, ensuring traceability between requirements, leading requirements discussions with customer and other stakeholders); Requirement metrics creation and handling; Designing or testing of electronic or mechatronic systems (including simulations and calculations, design reviews, test case definition, test execution, and test documentation); Development of High Voltage Power Electronic products (within aerospace or automotive); Working with US OEM customer requirements, including documenting, sorting, clustering and decomposing;  V Model (including development process basics involving different roles and invoked stakeholders); Requirements management tools (including: IBM Doors, Code beamer, or Polarion) to perform requirements engineering, including proper documentation and tracking of requirement status and traceability through different levels of requirements; IATF 16949; and Power Inverter and Power Control Units used in powertrain systems.
