About Young Community Developers

Established in 1973, YCD is a nonprofit organization who serves residents of all ages living in the most historically underserved communities of San Francisco. YCD takes a holistic approach via a delivery eco-system of services designed to empower residents in achieving economic mobility, in turn building and sustaining a positive community by providing them with education opportunities, workforce development training, and social services. Project Overview

100% College Prep Institute (100%) is a college preparatory organization for middle school, high school, and college youth. 100% seeks to provide underserved students with academic and leadership skills. Also with support that prepares them to enter and complete post-secondary educational opportunities. We employ a holistic approach that teams our staff with students, teachers, counselors, and parents in order to set and achieve academic goals, and a plan for college.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The role of the Student Success Coach includes developing and maintaining a positive and mutually respectful relationship with students. As the main point of contact for an assigned group of students, the Student Success Coach will focus on guiding each student toward achieving academic success. The Student Success Coach facilitates weekly sessions that focus on character building, culture/history, and manhood/sisterhood. This position also provides academic coaching to students one one-on-one and in small groups. In this learning process, it is important to encourage the student to become more self-aware by understanding their strengths, values, interests, purpose, and passion. This process should also focus on the student developing the necessary skills to be responsible for their actions and decisions. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Student Success Coach will counsel, motivate, advise, and provide caring mentorship in order to help all students meet their educational and life goals through monthly (or more as needed) transitional sessions.
  • Help students create their own Individual Student Success Plans that focus on goal setting, follow through, and monitor their progress. 
  • Encourages students to achieve self-awareness, such as identifying strengths, values, interests, purpose, and passions. 
  • Assists the students in becoming more responsible and developing decision-making skills.
  • Reviews student’s academic progress weekly; connects students who have GPA below 2.0 (C) and/or a 69% (D) or lower in a core subject with tutoring services 
  • Develop relationships with families of students and maintain regular dialogue with family members about students' needs, progress in the program, and challenges. 
  • Required to recruit and sustain youth participants throughout the program. 
  • Establish a professional and supportive relationship with the students. 
  • Attend meetings with program and school site staff as necessary. 
  • Submit daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports on the progress of students and families.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

A successful candidate will possess:

 

  • Minimum of 2 years of college, B.A./B.S. preferred or two years of relevant experience. 
  • Ability to work with youth who perform at different levels in either a classroom or after-school program setting. 
  • Strong ability to demonstrate 3 teaching modalities: visual (presenting information using graphs, tables, videos, etc.), auditory (by explanation and discussion), and tactile (having the student use their hands, i.e., constructing a model or having them work out a problem or it’s concepts on the board).
  • Ability to meet the needs of the community by working nontraditional hours as needed, which may include evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with schools and work in partnership with administrators, teachers, and community partners. 
  • Passion for mentoring young people, promoting youth development practices, and working towards social change.
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication skills and the ability and willingness to work with economically and culturally diverse clientele from various professional and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written communication, patience, diplomacy, and high level of customer service skills.
  • Ability to think critically, problem-solve and be resourceful.
  • Embraces cultural differences and is willing to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Self-motivated individual who has a passion to ensure that program goals, objectives and tasks are completed in a timely fashion and exceed standards.
  • An efficient multi-tasker who demonstrates effective time management and the capacity to meet competing deadlines. 
  • Must have proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong commitment to the mission of Young Community Developers Inc./100% College Prep and to individuals from diverse populations.
  • Continuous commitment to improve occupational knowledge.
  • Demonstrate competency with using Microsoft Office Suite, Google platform, Zoom, and other technology platforms.

 

 ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: 
 To best mitigate the spread of disease and protect our staff, it is a condition of employment that all employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Because YCD prioritizes the health and well-being of employees, proof of vaccination will be required upon hire and be kept on file for each employee.

COMPENSATION: $25.00 to $30.00 per hour

Final offer amounts are based on multiple factors such as the specific role, hiring location, as well as the individual's skills, experience and qualifications.
