YMCA of Southwestern Ontario was founded in 1856 and has over 200 locations from Goderich to Point Pelee, and Windsor to Woodstock. We are one of the largest not-for-profit providers of licensed child care in Canada and have over 100 school age programs across our regions. We also offer settlement services to newcomers, employment programs, mental health support, and youth programs. YMCA of Southwestern Ontario operates overnight camp, on Beausoleil Island in Muskoka. We also have 15 Health & Fitness branches across Southwestern Ontario.

Employees and volunteers of YMCA of Southwestern Ontario are ambassadors for the Y both on and off the job. Position: Overnight Camp Staff

Location: YMCA Camp Queen Elizabeth, Beausoleil Island

Start Date: June 20, 2026

End Date: August 21, 2026

Salary: $484-616/week based on experience and role

As part of your total compensation:

In this role, you will:

  • Form positive individual relationships with participants 
  • Ensure that participants’ life needs are met while at camp and on trip 
  • Provide adequate and engaged supervision of participants while at camp and on trip 
  • Proactively manage emotional and physical risk for participants and staff members on trip 
  • Develop and deliver a leadership program curriculum that fosters the development of positive group dynamics  
  • Provide opportunities for each individual participant to identify their own strengths and goals and to develop both their own character and their peer leadership skills 
  • Pack all food and equipment for trip, paying attention to dietary restrictions for participants
  • Be committed to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
  • Embrace and exemplify the Y’s core values

 

Other Job Details:

 

  • This is a seasonal position and the successful candidate is required to live on site at YMCA Camp Queen Elizabeth for the duration of their contract in rustic accommodations. 

 

Education and Skills Qualifications:

  • National Lifeguard
  • Standard First Aid, CPR C
  • Wilderness First Aid
  • Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Position Screening
  • ORCKA Canoe Tripping Level 2
  • Preferred Applicants: Strong leader with extensive camp outtripping experience who relates well to 15-year-olds, and can deliver consistent and positive feedback.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
