Overview

Swim Instructor

The Swim Instructor is responsible for providing adequate instruction within National Program and YMCA of San Diego County Guidelines. Provide excellent customer service to members and participants.

Schedule:

 

Full-Time - Must be available Mon-Fri from 9am-7pm and Sundays from 8am-6pm

Responsibilities

  • Instructor enforces safety rules and follows appropriate discipline guidelines
  • Instructor ensures that practice time is sufficient for all students to learn skills
  • Instructor follows logical skill progressions, and covers appropriate amount on information in time available
  • Instructor recognizes and corrects improper strokes or skills using positive feedback
  • Instructor communicates effectively with students in a patient, friendly manner
  • Administer First Aid and/or CPR as necessary
  • Report any hazards or problems to Director immediately
  • Educates participants regarding rules and regulations of pool area
  • Ability to work effectively with others in alignment with the YMCA 4 Core Values
  • Models the 4 Core Values in all aspects of position responsibilities
  • Visual and auditory ability to critical incidents, and the physical ability to act swiftly in emergency situations
  • Ability to adequately observe participant’s activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned needs to be included to all roles

Qualifications

  • Minimum 16 years of age
  • Current YMCA Swim Lesson (YSL) Certification or American Red Cross WSI Certification (must obtain YSL within 6 months)
  • Current CPR PRO/AED and must be from one of the following certifying organization: American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Safety & Health Institute.
  • Current First Aid certification and must be from one of the following certifying organization: American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Safety & Health Institute.
  • Current O2 certification and must be from one of the following certifying organization: American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Safety & Health Institute.
  • Experience instructing swim lessons preferred
  • Must pass written and practical skills exam prior to duty

 

YMCA will consider qualified applicants with a criminal history pursuant to the San Diego County Fair Chance Ordinance and the California Fair Chance Act. Pay Range

USD $19.69 - USD $21.66 /Hr.
