Job Title: Health Officer Coordinator                 

Department: Camp Ohiyesa

FLSA Status: Stipend

Status: Seasonal

Reports to: Program Director

 

 

 

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Health Officer Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of health care at camp. The Health Officer Coordinator is responsible for the safety, cleanliness, organization, and maintenance of the Health Lodge, inventory of medicine, medical records, and all other aspects related to the health of campers and staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assess each campers ability to participate in camp activities upon arrival.
  2. Determine the health status of campers and staff on continuing basis.
  3. Provide competent first aid and emergency treatment for sudden illness and injury.
  4. Responsible for procedures to prevent and control the spread of contagious disease in camp.
  5. Responsible for all staff to have a complete first aid kit at the start of each new camp session as well as maintaining the first aid kits at high risk areas ie: horse barn, high ropes shed, boating shed, etc.
  6. Responsible for the storage of complete medical records for all campers and staff.
  7. Provide instruction on proper health to campers.
  8. To consciously create a climate in camp that will foster the goals and objectives of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit and YMCA Camping Services.
  9. Complete any other duties deemed necessary by the Program Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be at least 18 years old
  2. Should have a varied background and experience in camping, aquatics, and working with children.
  3. Should have a general understanding of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit – YMCA Camping Services goals and objectives.

  • Ability to stand, sit (including on the ground), and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in all physical activities
  • Ability to sit and stand from a seated position (including from the ground) when interacting with children.
  • Capability to be actively engaging with youth outdoors for the majority of the day.
