Responsibilities 

At the Jorgensen Family YMCA, we are committed to building a safe and welcoming aquatic environment that supports the health and well-being of all members. As part of our aquatics team, you’ll ensure safety, provide leadership, and support program excellence. Other responsibilities include:

• Lead staff by supervising lifeguards, assisting with scheduling, and supporting professional development through in-service training.

• Support a safe aquatic environment by maintaining vigilant surveillance, enforcing pool rules, and responding to emergencies according to YMCA policies.

• Care for members and participants by ensuring positive communication, enforcing policies fairly, and assisting with administrative needs such as reports, schedules, and logs.

• Develop program quality by monitoring chemical/temperature readings, ensuring equipment is in working condition, and supporting growth and innovation in aquatic offerings.

Requirements 

Candidates must be committed to contributing to the mission, culture, and values of the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne as well as:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
• 1-3 years of lifeguard experience required.
• Supervisory experience, preferably in an aquatic setting.
• Certification from the YMCA or other accredited association required (i.e. LGI and YMCA PYAL, etc.)
• Excellent communication, supervisory, and organizational skills.
• Excellent human relation skills and enthusiasm.
• Basic math skills and demonstrated recordkeeping proficiency.
• An elevated level of organization, flexibility, and ability to handle difficult situations effectively.
•  Successfully complete within 60 days of hire: CPR/First Aid/O2 Certification, Bloodborne Pathogen training, Child Abuse

Salary: Part-time $13.50-$14.00 hourly

Hours Available: 3:00pm-9:00pm & Mornings starting in May
