The Oasis at Death Valley is situated in a lush, spring-fed desert oasis, surrounded by the vast and arid desert of Death Valley National Park. The Oasis operates the historic AAA Four Diamond Inn and Ranch, restaurants, gift shops, and the world's lowest elevation golf course. Both hotels have swimming pools fed by naturally warm local springs and open year-round.

Job Summary:
The mechanic is responsible for managing and implementing a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for all equipment, reporting directly to the Golf Superintendent while collaborating closely with the Grounds Superintendent. This position includes diagnosing and repairing equipment issues, maintaining detailed records of parts, labor, and maintenance activities for each piece of equipment, and ordering parts and supplies as necessary. The mechanic effectively communicates any concerns or requirements related to equipment maintenance and repairs to the superintendent, ensuring smooth operations by scheduling and directing work assignments.

 

The Details:
Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round

Start Dates: As soon as possible on next available check in date (approximately three weeks)

Pay: $21.25/hour
Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

Responsibilities

  • Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various property maintenance equipment, including, diesel-, electric- and gasoline-powered automobiles, trucks, trenchers, sweepers, rollers, mowers, and other mechanical equipment used in utility work.
  • Instructs and/or trains maintenance workers regarding preventive maintenance, and the proper cleaning of and safe operation of equipment.
  • Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work.
  • Maintains a preventive maintenance program within budget on all equipment, and purchases repair parts and replacement supplies.
  • Keeps a complete set of records for equipment and parts inventory purchases, equipment conditions, costs of repairs and preventive maintenance for all equipment.
  • Spot checks equipment for performance on the property, makes emergency repairs to equipment, and services or supervises servicing of equipment prior to use.
  • Oversees the shop area maintenance.
  • Regulates employees' use of equipment in absence of superintendent if needed, and performs other duties as directed by the superintendent.
  • Knowledge of sharpening and grinding reels and blades and follows all safety guidelines per regulations and established codes.
  • Working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and automotive apparatuses.
  • Skill in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools, and the making of various types of mechanical repair.
  • Must be able to demonstrate professional and courteous behavior with all guests and employees.

Qualifications

  • Prefer experience in maintaining turf grass equipment, but will train if supported with other mechanic experience
  • Will be responsible for repairing and maintaining the cutting units on a wide variety of light and heavy equipment and understanding the manufacturer’s guidelines for maintaining equipment
  • Ability to keep accurate records and logs of parts and repairs
  • Ability to keep a clean and organized work area
  • Demonstrate the ability to respect and follow all safety protocols
  • Positive attitude towards providing additional support to the Golf and Grounds Teams as needed
  • Valid Driver’s License

Physical Requirements include:

  • Constantly listening, hearing, seeing, standing, walking, using eye/hand coordination, handling, wrist motion.
  • Frequently walk and lift or carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasionally sit, handle, reach outward, reach above shoulder, squat, or kneel, lift/carry and push or pull up to 100lbs.
  • Will be required to stand long periods of time and to occasionally walk-up flights of stairs.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures.
