As a Metallurgical/Materials Science Engineer, you’ll be hands-on in the process, collaborating daily with talented metallurgists, operators, and cross-functional teams to elevate product quality, optimize processes, and advance new materials and grades that serve the automotive, construction, energy, and agricultural markets. Responsibilities

  • Interface with steel mills to ensure raw material enables correct final product characteristics.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with and proficiency in interpreting ASTM, EN/DIN, SAE, and customer specifications.
  • Develop material and processing parameters to efficiently achieve desired end-product properties based on customer and industry specifications.
  • Create and maintain documentation for metallurgical design including chemical composition selection, annealing cycles, coating weights, and tension leveling.
  • Research, design, and manage product capability/development initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
  • Provide metallurgical expertise to purchasing, commercial, operations, material disposition, and customer claims groups.
  • Participate in corrective action teams and facilitate root cause analyses.
  • Support the testing laboratory through test standard interpretation, procedure development and auditing, and due diligence for test equipment selection.
  • Prescribe metallurgical testing and interpret results for internal and external customer presentations.
  • Assist with customer order creation and material transfers.

Desired Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science Engineering
  • Recent college graduate or up to five years of experience
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Exposure to hot-dip galvanizing is a plus.
  • Familiarity with welding is a plus.
  • Knowledge of statistics and/or advanced analytics is a plus.
