BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The Communications Officer (CAM Officer) reports to the Head of Partnerships and Communications. The CAM Officer defines and implements communications plan by supporting and delivering a range of communications activities and national campaigns. The CAM Officer is involved in media relations and supports donor relations (Government, public and private) by ensuring visibility, aligning advocacy, and increasing awareness of WFP through national campaigns.
JOB PURPOSE:
To manage a team of 2 national staff to implement the communications plan by supporting and delivering a range of communications activities and national campaigns.
To develop, plan and implement communications activities that support the overall communications strategy and WFP objectives to ensure that the CO communications activities serve WFP needs in the country of assignment, taking into consideration the overall regional communications plan and WFP's corporate communications goals.
To support WFP advocacy, not only targeting the public through media channels, but also government, public and private partnerships.
This position is based in Abuja and reports to the Head of Partnership and Communication.
THE ROLE
To develop, plan and implement communications activities that support the overall communications strategy and WFP objectives.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, within delegated authority):
Develop, maintain and update an appropriate work plan for the assigned area, which implements the corporate communications strategy, in order to maintain and enhance the visibility and reputation of WFP, ensure corporate branding and support fundraising activities, in alignment with WFP's strategy.
Plan, manage and evaluate communications campaigns that favourably impact the views of the public, opinion leaders and donors in order to raise WFP’s profile and support fundraising activities.
Prepare communications products that effectively convey the desired message to targeted audience(s).
Execute the work plan for assigned area by delivering activities that maintain and develop private partnerships in order to maximize resources raised for the program
Contribute to the management of a portfolio of partnerships, soliciting contributions, providing donor stewardship, and analyzing results, in order to maximize resources raised.
Provide communications support to technical units as required, in order to assist them to effectively mobilize donor resources issues for Country Director.
Proactively contribute to ideas and highlight fundraising opportunities to senior managers for new strategies to maintain and increase funding from new and traditional donors.
Support the design and development of communications/information material to educate new and potential donors on the strategy, design, relevance and impact of WFP programmes, and to advocate the work of WFP.
Represent WFP at local, regional, international meetings at appropriate levels in such a way that advances the communications strategy and objectives, and builds support for WFP activities.
Maintain effective relationships with representatives of private sector organizations and creative industries through appropriate channels.
Coordinate work with Communications Officers at the RB and HQ to ensure the flow of information, alignment of activities and ensure that conditions for advocacy and communications are met.
Support the social media plan by developing social media content, and utilizing platforms, networks and partners to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities.
Generate donor specific visibility content including, text, photos, videos and audio for use across a range of integrated online platforms, in order to support global and country fund-raising activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages.
Conduct regular and frequent travel to the deep field, including with media representatives, to generate quality multimedia content including writing, video, photo and audio storytelling, as well as collecting and analysing WFP’s data to produce reports.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Advanced University degree in Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, Marketing Communications or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.
Language: Fluency (level C) in English language.

Has implemented the resource mobilization and communications activities by delivering specific activities as defined.
Has participated and assisted in negotiations for contributions and partnership agreements with donors in line with internal policies and external regulations.
Has assisted in drafting donors reports, resourcing analysis and collaborated with accurate and timely briefs.
Knowledge & Skills:
Relationship Management Demonstrates - ability to build and sustain effective collaborative relationships with appropriate stakeholders and contacts in area of expertise to raise the profile of WFP, build relationships and further organizational aims.
Communication Expertise - Facilitates and contributes to open verbal or written communication with stakeholders as required (i.e. through preparation of targeted written or visual communications materials, presentations, and official documentation) to convey tailored messages. Engages in mutually informative discussion with partners and influencers.
Information Analytics, Reporting & Management - Gathers, analyses and reports information in a manner that draws out fact-based insights to inform approach to partner relationships and support substantive discussion with partners. Captures relevant information and progress and ensures internal information sharing.
Resource Mobilization - Provides resourcing advice and briefs to senior managers, leading medium/large teams and strategically allocating material and other appropriate resources.
