Description

The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA or Agency) is a member of the World Bank Group, and our mission is to promote foreign direct investment into developing countries to help end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity on a livable planet. We do that through the provision of political risk insurance and public sector credit guarantees to investors and lenders against losses caused by noncommercial risks. In July 2024, the World Bank Group launched the WBG Guarantee Platform (WB GP), a major upgrade to its guarantees business, that will deliver improved guarantee access through a unified team at MIGA as well as innovative new guarantee solutions. These new reforms will help position MIGA to achieve the goal of tripling annual guarantee issuance to $20 billion by 2030.

To meet this goal and maximize its development mandate, MIGA must stay focused on supporting the needs of WBG’s developing member countries, while complementing the activities of other public and private insurers.   To further develop the Agency’s business and foster innovation in the WB Guarantee Platform across the World Bank Group Institutions in these core areas and to meet the evolving needs of investors in developing and emerging markets, MIGA’s FIG  (Financial Institutions Group)  Operations Department (MIGOP) seeks a Senior Investment Officer with extensive sector experience in trade, commodity and supply chain finance sectors who will identify new business opportunities for the WB’s GP focusing in finding joint solutions for the WBG clients leveraging in the guarantee products of IFC, MIGA and IBRD/IDA.  

This position will be based in Washington D.C. The selected candidate will report to MIGA’s Financial Institutions Group Manager based in Washington D.C.

Duties and Accountabilities: 

The Senior Investment Officer is expected to:
•  Develop and maintain a strategic understanding of the Trade, Commodity, and Supply Chain Finance sectors;
•  Generate and deliver the Trade finance, Commodity and Supply Chain finance products and solutions leveraging in IFC’s, IBRD/ IDA’s and MIGA’s guarantees products and clients;
•  Oversee and manage a diverse range of trade products, clients, and complex issues, such as work in IDA/FCS countries;
•  Build, foster and manage strong client relationship;
•  Anticipate market trends, identify emerging opportunities, and develop new innovative initiatives with a high probability of success;
•  Connect across the corporation, and navigate complex challenges with the conviction and sound judgement ;
•  Share knowledge and experience within the WBG, and represent the WBG in external events;
•  Explore, adapt and implement different products and approaches in order to optimize the client delivery, while being balance sheet agnostic.  

Selection Criteria

•  Master’s degree in a related field and at least 8-12 years of relevant experience.  
•  Demonstrated knowledge in financial institutions, trade, commodity and supply chain finance, credit and risk management, corporate governance, international finance and development issues and market creation advisory work.
•  Extensive experience in and knowledge of IFC products, operational processes, and governance frameworks .
•  Ability to represent WB GP externally and to develop and manage relationships with clients, government, media, and donors, and work collaboratively with the World Bank, other DFIs, and other industry stakeholders.
•  Strong business development and client relationship skills, demonstrated network relevant for the team’s business, track record, and ability to focus on clients’ needs effectively; strong sense of service to clients and demonstrated business development aptitude; proven success in developing client relationships.
•  Ability to develop innovative solutions and challenge the status quo to build the business.
•  Excellent people management skills and openness to feedback; new ideas and ability to guide staff to solutions to problems.
•  Proactive self-starter, creative and skilled individual with attention to detail; works independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
•  Highest standards of ethical integrity, and transparency.
•  Excellent writing and research skills.
