Position Objective

The Back office Medical Assistant provides nursing care tailored to the needs of each patient, examinee, and client. Responsibilities include performing both dependent and independent nursing functions that align with recognized techniques, procedures, and standards within the scope of medical assisting, all under the direction of the Medical Director.

Essential Functions

The Back Office Medical Assistant responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Supporting WHS’s mission, vision, and values.
  2. Maintain compliance with Work Health Solutions policies, quality assurance programs, and safety standards.
  3. Maintain HIPAA confidentiality, adhere to OSHA safety standards, and DOT guidelines.
  4. Perform all duties as outlined in the Skills Competency Checklists relevant to the Back Office.
  5. Ensure proper labeling, documentation, and secure handling of all specimens.
  6. Assist providers during exams and minor procedures.
  7. Record vital signs and medical history accurately.
  8. Prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
  9. Conduct occupational health tests (drug screens, audiograms, PFT, BATs, vision tests, etc).
  10. Perform all clinical care duties within scope of practice.
  11. Perform vital signs, medical histories, and documentation in the EMR.
  12. Participate in initial and ongoing training as required.
  13. Respond to after-hours calls during the assigned on-call schedule.

Supervisory Responsibility

This role has no supervisory responsibility.


Work Environment

This position is designated as Safety Sensitive, meaning that job performance directly affects the safety of both the employee and others. Adherence to all Federal and State laws regarding drug use is required, and Work Health Solutions hires for this position accordingly. Regular walking within the clinic is required, along with direct interaction with patients, some of whom may have contagious illnesses.


Physical Demands

This role is active and physically engaging. Requirements include:

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping.
  • Regular talking and listening.
  • Ability to lift or move items over 20 pounds.
  • Reaching above, at, and below desk height.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

  • Full-time position, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week.
  • Overtime and work during inclement weather may be required.

Travel

Occasional travel may be required.


Required Education and Experience

  1. Graduate of an accredited MA program.
  2. 1-2 years’ experience in a medical clinic setting.
  3. Familiarity with EMR Systems.
  4. Current CPR/First Aid certification.
  5. Proficiency in computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, email, faxing, scanning, etc.).
  6. Must be able to type 35-40 WPM.
  7. Must be certified as UDS collector and BAT Technician with 90 days of employment.

Preferred Education and Experience

  1.  3 years of recent experience in a medical office, urgent care, or emergency department.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  1. Valid state driver’s license.
  2. Proof of current vehicle insurance for company-related driving.
