Salary Range: $15.00 - $15.00 Hourly

Job Summary
The Fitness Attendant is responsible for monitoring the fitness floor, cleaning and sanitizing equipment, performing fitness orientations, and maintaining fitness equipment. The entire wage range for this position is $15.00-$22.50 per hours. The hiring rate for this position is $15.00.

This position will be for 10-20hrs a week. Availability to work a variety of hours including mornings, evenings and weekends. Fitness Center hours:
Monday-Thursday 5am-8pm; Friday 5am-7pm; Saturday-Sunday 7am-3pm

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily and demonstrate the District’s core competencies consisting of financial accountability, integrity/ethics, job knowledge, policies & procedures compliance, work quality, risk management/safety, District/Department vision and values, adaptability/flexibility, dependability, and productivity.
 

Essential Duties

  • Greet all patrons in a warm and friendly manner.
  • Assist ARC guests/members on all equipment located in the fitness area.
  • Conduct fitness facility tours and explain the benefits to prospective members.
  • Orientate new fitness center members: describe benefits and provide instruction on proper use of all equipment; discuss personal training services, special events, or other offerings available to members.
  • Ensure all equipment is returned to its appropriate location or starting set-up.
  • Keep fitness area clear of debris, newspapers, magazines, etc.
  • Supervise fitness center to include but not limited to the following: ensure rules and regulations are followed for the safety of all guests/members; ensure cleanliness standards are maintained; ensure proper use of equipment; monitor temperature, music system, televisions/monitors, and lighting.
  • Walk the fitness floor on a regular basis and offer help with equipment or assist a guest/member in an emergency situation.
  • Record daily duties/cleaning and inspection of equipment on form provided.
  • Monitor the indoor walking/jogging track and group exercise studios.
  • Promote safety programs with fitness center guests, members, and staff.
  • Communicate with patrons during their workout to see if any assistance is needed.
  • Effectively communicate important information to Fitness Manager or Facility Manager including but not limited to client feedback, accidents, safety concerns, maintenance issues, broken equipment, program and resource concerns as needed.
  • Inspect, clean and maintain equipment.
  • Complete and read all daily shift reports, memos and records as required.

Customer Service

  • Monitor health of all guests/members; be aware and prepared to deal with emergency health issues in accordance with Park District policies. 

Initiative

  • Launder cleaning towels.
  • Assist with special events and programs.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the Park District policies, procedures, and operations and enforce them in a positive manner.
  • Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.

Communication

  • Listen attentively to others, ask clarifying questions, actively listen, stay open to other viewpoints, manage distractions and interruptions.
  • Use appropriate time keeping method/system to accurately record time worked in accordance with policy/procedure.

Technical Skills

  • Understand specialty equipment, keep knowledge up-to-date, be a technical resource for others, follow technology practices and standards.

Teamwork

  • Work as a team player with co-workers and in conjunction with other departments.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training sessions as required.
     

Qualifications


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and demonstrate the competencies listed above in addition to the following:

  • Minimum of 18 years old.
  • Minimum of one year of proven successful experience in fitness floor management preferred.
  • Knowledge of fitness principles and exercise prescription preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of strength training and cardiovascular exercise preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Ability to modify exercise programs for special populations.
  • Ability to operate simple machinery and tools.
  • Ability to work independently, to be self-motivated, and maintain professionalism at all times.
  • Knowledge of computer software programs including Microsoft Office, Recreation software, and the Internet.
  • Ability to work effectively with the general public, cooperating agencies, businesses, organizations, civic groups, and park district employees.
  • Ability to read, understand, remember, and interpret routine documents such as safety rules as well as communicate information therein.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondences and to speak effectively before groups of participants or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to understand, remember, and apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to identify and respond quickly to emergency situations.
  • Ability to effectively problem solve and adapt to change.

Education & Training

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Obtain and maintain a valid Illinois State Driver’s License.
  • Obtain and maintain first-aid certification within first 30 days of employment.
  • Obtain and maintain adult CPR/AED certification in first 30 days of employment.
