JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

POSITION:                 Bartender

FLSA:                         Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO:           Restaurant Manager, Assistant Restaurant Manager, Restaurant Supervisor

 

SUMMARY: Prepare drinks for dining room waiters, cocktail servers, and guests seated at bar. Must perform all side work related to this service. Implement the use of prescribed bar controls, prescribed service techniques, ordering procedures and exhibit high levels of hospitality and courtesy. Must have extensive knowledge of drink recipes and wines. Handle various methods of payment for bar guests and servers if necessary and accounting responsibilities if required.   


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and serve drinks for bar guests, cocktail servers dining room waiters, including being able to confidently and properly offer bottled wine service.
  • Prepare cocktails properly and consistently (standard or signature) by provided recipe.
  • Must use prescribed bar controls and company policies consistently.
  • Must maintain inventory levels in bar of beer, wine and liquor by correctly restocking various products before, during and after service.
  • Must maintain clean, neat, orderly bar areas at all times including, sinks, counters, coolers, service areas etc.
  • Must wash glassware correctly.
  • Must know current ABC laws and adhere to these including checking for proper identification.
  • Assist manager with bar inventory if requested.
  • Prep before shift and stock bar items as prescribed.
  • Must know drink pricing system in order to monitor server checks efficiently.
  • Offer lounge cocktail and food service when necessary, following proper steps of service.
  • Assist other bartenders, servers as necessary.
  • Thoroughly clean and breakdown work area at end of shift.
  • Show a desire to increase level of Food and Beverage product knowledge.
  • Execute effective use/management of company resources.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a good working knowledge of mixing drinks, drink recipes, and service techniques. Must have knowledge of current ABC laws (TIPS program certification preferred) and bar control.
  • Must be able to maintain high levels of hospitality and courtesy under pressure in a noisy crowded atmosphere.
  • Must have a clean and neat appearance and conform to uniform regulations. 
  • Good communication and organizational skills necessary.
  • Must be capable of doing end-of-shift paperwork accurately and efficiently.
  • Dependable transportation and the ability to work a flexible schedule are required –weekends, holidays, evenings. 
  • Prior food and beverage experience required.
  • Availability on nights, weekends, and holidays

  

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES:

High school diploma OR GED.   

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must be able to carry 25-40 pounds. Job requires being on feet for long periods.
