Salary: Grade F, £14.13 - £14.82 per hour

Hours of work: 5 days, 30 hours a week with a 40-minute unpaid lunch.  8.50am – 3.25pm             

Contract type: Permanent, term-time only

We are seeking a caring, organised and confident Medical & First Aid Assistant to join our dedicated medical team at Silverwood School, a large and vibrant SEN school supporting pupils with a wide range of complex needs.

This is a rewarding opportunity to play a vital role in safeguarding pupil health and wellbeing, working closely with our Cross Site Medical Coordinator, school staff, families and external health professionals. You will support the delivery of high-quality medical care across the school, ensuring pupils’ medical and first aid needs are met safely, compassionately and in line with individual healthcare plans and school protocols. You will be a key point of contact for first aid, medication administration, medical record keeping and health coordination across multiple school sites.

All about the role:

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the administration of prescribed and over-the-counter medication with appropriate consent
  • Act as a First Aider for pupils and staff
  • Support pupils with complex and high-level medical needs, including in-class support where required
  • Assist with creating, updating, and sharing Individual Health Care Plans
  • Maintain accurate medical records on SIMS and pupil files
  • Ensure safe storage and monitoring of medication, including asthma inhalers and emergency supplies
  • Coordinate and support immunisation sessions and medical clinics
  • Liaise with parents, school nursing teams, and external health agencies
  • Maintain first aid kits, training registers, and medical supplies
  • Respond calmly and professionally to medical emergencies
  • Work flexibly across all Silverwood School campuses

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience in a medical, healthcare, education, or SEN setting (desirable)
  • Holds a First Aid qualification (or is willing to undertake training)
  • Is confident supporting children with complex medical needs
  • Is highly organised with excellent communication skills
  • Can maintain strict confidentiality and uphold safeguarding standards
  • Is flexible, resilient, and able to work calmly under pressure
