The team you will be a part of

Mechanical Structures is a team within LAR Product Organization, Laundry Platform (Vertical Axis Washers, Horizontal Axis Washers and Dryers). The region of accountability of this team encompasses the whole LAR market, with responsibility for module developments of all structures components.

This role in summary

Whirlpool is seeking a talented Product Development - Associate Level Engineer with a strong engineering background for the Structures Team. This engineer will be located in our Tech Center in Rio Claro - Brazil, responsible for the development and approval of our components throughout the various phases of projects. A variety of technologies is under our accountability (including but not limited to): plastic molded parts, casting and powder metal technologies, sheet metal designs, rubber seals and belts, bearings, suspension elements, wash unit components, etc; combined with a highly interactive work with cross-functional teams and suppliers, this position is a must-apply if you are looking for a dynamic and challenging job.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Accountable for Structures components (cost & quality activities / new developments) within the Mechanical Structures Team;
  • Work with Service, Quality, and Manufacturing areas to drive investigations of root cause and quality improvements in our businesses;
  • Work with suppliers, perform competition benchmarking and work with Manufacturing areas to drive business cost reduction projects;
  • Technical lead of any activity related to Structures components: fine-tuning of concepts, material selection, design for manufacturing and assembly, including creating design FMEAs and working with Labs to verify and validate the designs;
  • Work with Quality teams to run the first part approvals (FPA’s) and Product Part Approval Process (PPAP);
  • Cover the role of MO (Module Owner) supporting roadmaps and strategy plans around specific modules and attributes to help reduce complexity;
  • Communication with procurement and suppliers to work on the development of components.

Minimum requirements

  • BSc in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field;
  • Project Management Skills with the ability to manage multiple projects in parallel;
  • CAD Skills (Creo Preferred);
  • Proficiency in English (Read, listen, write and speak).

Preferred skills and experiences

  • Proactivity;
  • Excellent Communication Skills;
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a matrix environment is a plus;
  • Experience designing mechanical components: specification, testing and approval is a plus;
  • Understanding and reviewing computer simulation (FEM, FEA, CFD, CAD) reports and incorporating recommendations into the design is a plus;
  • Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field is a plus.

Additional information

This position is located at Rio Claro, about 02 hours away from São Paulo in an important industrial center of the state. At this plant is located the production of Washing-Machines, Stoves, Ovens and Cooktops, also located here is the Dish and Washing Machines Tecnology Center and the Finished Products Distribution Center.
