About this role

What’s the role?

As a hands‑on Senior Engineer, you’ll be responsible for designing, building and supporting Mainframe systems that power Westpac’s Consumer Finance technology. You’ll work in an agile delivery environment supporting core platforms, contributing to major transformation initiatives and ensuring changes are designed with performance, resilience and recovery in mind.

This role is based in Sydney, where our Mainframe platforms and domain experts are located.

What do I need?

  • Strong hands‑on capability with IMS DB/DC, CICS, VSAM, JCL, COBOL and/or PL/I, ZOS Connect, Endevor, Control-M, OPC, Mainframe Debugging Tools (e.g. IMS Xpert, File-Aid, ABEND-AID)
  • Experience working on card‑based products such as Credit or Debit Cards
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to analyse, debug and minimise impact to existing systems
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with service owners and translate requirements into clear technical solutions.

Desirable:

  • Passion for automation   
  • Other Mainframe Domain knowledge in particular Core domain knowledge desirable (CIS, Trading Bank, BIS etc.) 
  • Visa/Mastercard and EPFOS Schemes 
  • Knowledge in Plastic, PIN and Virtual/Mobile Cards
