JOB TITLE:         Maintenance Technician

REPORTS TO:   Facility Manager

LOCATION:        Various, NYC

SALARY:            $21.63 per hour

SUMMARY: The Maintenance Mechanic, under the direction of the Facility Manager, performs all necessary interior and exterior facility repairs, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry work, of a NYC DHS contract shelter facility. The mechanic keeps the facility in good working order using troubleshooting techniques and performing repairs as needed. This position requires good judgment and understanding of industry standard repairs, code requirements and worker safety. Position may require some evening and weekend hours. Proof of Covid-19 vaccination is required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Escorts outside contractors, vendors and inspectors and accepts deliveries as needed.

● Responsible for all repairs not requiring a licensed contractor.

● Troubleshooting and repair (light electrical and plumbing work) of outlets, switches, light fixtures, drain lines, sinks, tubs and toilets. Clears plumbing stoppages.

● Performs HVAC troubleshooting and servicing including cleaning units and replacing filters.

● Makes repairs to damaged sheetrock, including finish work/painting.

● Makes adjustments/minor repairs to windows, doors and locks.

● Assembles/repairs/ installs room furniture.

● Repairs any damage to client rooms, furniture and fixtures.

● Responsible for all mechanical work on unit turnovers.

● Completes work orders for occupied client rooms.

● Reports all negative building conditions to the Facility Manager.

● Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED with ability to communicate (written and verbal) in English is required. Minimum of two years of repair/mechanical experience is required, including carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical. Must have good math skills, Trade/Technical school training is a plus. Knowledge of local NYC laws regarding building maintenance is preferred but willingness to learn is essential. Must be able to lift, push or pull 50 lbs.
