Job Description

Westgate Resorts is seeking a detail-oriented Accountant I to join our team at Smoky Mountain Resort in Gatlinburg, TN. This role is perfect for those looking to build a strong foundation in accounting, with responsibilities including daily cash reconciliations, revenue auditing, and journal entry preparation. As you gain proficiency, you’ll take on more complex assignments, supporting senior staff with research and balance sheet reconciliations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare general ledger closing entries
  • Review, analyze and present financial statements
  • Reconcile bank accounts
  • Reconcile general ledger balance sheet accounts and maintain proper backup
  • Exercise proper judgment and present all findings with a game plan to resolve issues
  • Assist and support to other staff members and other department managers
  • Carry out any reasonable request by management that employee is capable of performing

Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of two year’s relative experience in a month end close general ledger environment
  • Accounting experience in the timeshare industry preferred
  • Proficient knowledge of Oracle database preferred
  • Proficient in Excel and Word
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills written and oral
  • Strong analytical abilities
  • Ability to work independently and in a group environment (team player)
  • Willingness to work overtime to assist financial reporting department deadlines 

    Education & Certifications

    • Must have an Associate's degree in Accounting or Finance (Accounting strongly preferred)

    Skills/Knowledge

    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures in English
    • Ability to write procedure manuals
    • Ability to work independently and in a group environment (team player)
    • Ability to make sound judgments and solve problems
    • Must be proficient in Excel (ability to interpret and create spreadsheets), Word, Outlook.
