About this role

Park Nicollet is looking to hire a Pharmacist to join our Specialty Pharmacy team!  Come join us as a Partner for Good and help us make an impact on the care and experience that our patients and their families receive every day. 

Position Summary:

The purpose of this position is to improve population based and patient specific medication related outcomes through collaboration with a multi-disciplinary medical team in the ambulatory setting. The pharmacist assumes a primary responsibility and accountability for the provision of safe and effective drug therapy and other medication management services intended to achieve outcomes related to the mitigation or prevention of disease, reduction of patients’ symptoms, prevention of adverse drug events and improvement of patients’ quality of life.

The Specialty Pharmacist will obtain and review prescription orders, and consult with patients and care teams on their safe and effective use. Supervises and checks work performed by ancillary personnel. Maintains familiarity with processing and coverage details of the various insurances. HealthPartners Specialty Pharmacy focuses on several specialty departments within the organization including oncology, rheumatology, dermatology, gastroenterology, allergy, asthma, and pulmonology. 

 

What is Specialty Pharmacy? 

Specialty Pharmacies focus on specialty medications used to treat complex conditions. These medications are often high cost with unique insurance requirements and are not typically found in retail pharmacies.

We are a rapidly growing area of pharmacy that is uniquely integrated into our broader healthcare system. By working closely with care teams, we can provide a seamless transition from diagnosis to affordable medication in hand, while also improving adherence and managing medication therapy.  

What will a Pharmacist be responsible for?

o   Clinical Management – Ensuring appropriate and optimized therapy, navigating drug interactions, monitoring labs, and conducting patient education.

o   Prior Authorizations - Assisting in the completion and follow-up of medication prior authorizations.

o   Physician Partnership – Answering incoming questions from clinicians regarding drug therapy.

o   Prescription fulfillment – Complying with all State and Federal requirements for medication fulfillment.

Unique to this position

o   The hours are Monday through Friday 8am-430pm.

o   The pharmacy is closed for major holidays.

o   Patient interaction is completed by telephone.

o   Most daily work is completed at an employee's personal desk.

o   An hour is allotted for lunch.

o   All medications dispensed are for at home use. Currently, we do not compound any prescriptions.

     o   This position incorporates elements from hospital and retail pharmacy settings.

Work Schedule:

Monday- Friday 8am-4:30pm

Required Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have a current Minnesota Pharmacist license.
  • Bachelor’s or PharmD degree in pharmacy 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred: Board of Pharmacy Specialties Certification
  • Demonstrate knowledge in pharmacodynamics, and pharmacokinetics, pathophysiology and therapeutic disease states commonly found in ambulatory and oncology patients.
