The Organization

De Havilland Aircraft of Canada is excited to announce the addition of a group of highly experienced aerospace professionals to our organization!  Mid Canada Mod Centre (MC2) and Avionics Design Services (ADS) joined De Havilland in October 2023, creating additional capacity and expanding our expertise in both avionics design services and upgrades as well as maintenance and modifications.

Profile

We are seeking a highly motivated, hands-on professional to join our team as an Aeronautical Structures Designer / Liaison in Calgary, Alberta. In this role, you will support the efficient installation of aircraft structures and systems within the framework of new MC2/ADS programs. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform 3D Design of structural modifications, including new equipment and antennas installations using SolidWorks.
  • Create Model Based Definition and/or detailed drawings of the structural components.
  • Ensure the design meets the applicable specification requirements, and appropriate industry regulations including CAR, FAR or CS.
  • Balance and optimize competing design criteria.
  • Efficiently review and evaluate existing designs to evolve, refine or optimize that design.
  • Conduct aircraft surveys to determine the best design solution for modification.
  • Review internal drawings for technical accuracy.
  • Collaborate effectively with support groups, end users, and consumers of your designs.
  • Clearly and succinctly communicate design decisions and rationale.
  • Seek input when needed from senior engineering staff to ensure sound technical results.
  • Work effectively both as part of the Design Team and within the broader Engineering Department.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering, a related curriculum, or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of Aeronautical/Aerospace Structural Design experience, preferably in Aftermarket modification, is considered an asset.  
  • Proficiency in mechanical design practices.
  • Demonstrated experience with aircraft structural design and an understanding of typical aircraft structures and systems architecture.
  • Willingness to travel as required.

Skills

  • Proven Aircraft structural design background with strong CAD proficiency (Solidworks, Autodesk AutoCad).
  • Strong Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Team player, with good written and verbal skills, initiative, technical judgement, and a high sense of responsibility.  
  • Ability to manage several concurrent projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to think quickly and creatively, in a fast-paced, evolving business environment.
