  • Part Time (20 hours per week) opportunity based in Gympie/Emerald/Rockhampton

Warmline is a non-clinical, peer-led suicide prevention phone service. We support people who have attempted suicide, are experiencing suicidal thoughts, or are at risk, through relationship-based scheduled phone conversations grounded in lived experience, empathy and connection.

Please note: This is not a crisis line or counselling service.

About the opportunity

As a Warmline Suicide Prevention Peer Worker, you will provide scheduled one-on-one phone support to people seeking connection and understanding. Support may be offered as a single or multiple calls. Through these calls you will be building trusted relationships which will foster connection and create hope.

Using your lived experience with clear boundaries, you will offer validation, empathy and understanding, helping people feel heard, respected and less alone. You will support individuals to:

  • explore what has helped them before,

  • identify coping strategies

  • work alongside them to develop or revise existing safety plans that reflect their strengths, preferences and goals.

  • identify and connect with relevant local or online supports.

The focus of this role is to be present, offer support and connection. You will support people to make their own choices and identify what feels right for them.

Set Shift Times:

Monday–Wednesday: 1:30pm–7:00pm

Saturday: 10:00am–3:30pm (penalty rates apply)

Lived Experience & Readiness

We are seeking people who have had time, support and reflection to integrate their lived/living experience and who are able to share it intentionally and with clear boundaries, so the focus remains on the person seeking support.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Lived or living experience of suicidality or suicide bereavement

  • Right to work in Australia

  • Current Driver’s Licence

  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate (Quality, Safety and You)

  • National Police Check

  • NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working with Children Check

Desirable:

  • Peer work, community support, advocacy, or mental health sector experience

  • Relevant qualifications (Cert IV / Diploma in Mental Health or Peer Work)

Wellways Australia is a leading national mental health and disability support organisation with services in Queensland, ACT, NSW, Victoria and Tasmania. We work with a diverse range of people, their families and carers to identify needs and goals to build good lives in the community This includes creating a home, getting a job and building meaningful relationships.
