About the opportunity

As our new Living in Community (LinC) Worker, you will be part of our Building Community Capacity team, supporting people who are experiencing mental health challenges, social isolation, or loneliness to find meaningful connection within their own community.

This is a rewarding and newly created opportunity where you will provide one-to-one and group support, walk alongside people in exploring their interests and passions, and work collaboratively with their supporters. You’ll also play a role in building community capacity through facilitating activities, sharing resources, and delivering presentations that increase awareness of the impacts of social isolation on mental health and wellbeing.

Together with your team members, you’ll instil hope through positive role modelling and mutual relationships, offering practical ways of overcoming day-to-day barriers and encouraging people to try new things.

An opportunity exists for this role to being a part time (0.8FTE, equivalent to 4 days per week) role for the right candidate to fit your best work / life balance. Pro rata salary would apply.

About you

This role is identified for someone with lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery. You feel comfortable drawing on your own experiences to empower others in their recovery journey.

You’re empathetic and community-minded, with strong communication skills and the ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds. You’ll bring a blend of lived experience, relevant training and an understanding of local community supports to help people build confidence, skills, and social networks.

What you’ll bring:

  • Personal experience of mental distress and accessing and navigating healthcare services, including mental health services and a willingness to draw upon your experiences and recovery journey to inform your work
  • Certificate IV Mental Health/AOD Peer Work, SHARC Peer Worker Training, Intentional Peer Support or willingness to complete.
  • Relevant experience in a community engagement or peer worker role. 
  • Right to Work within Australia
  • Satisfactory National Police Check, Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willingness to undertake
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module

Wellways, in partnership with APMHA Healthcare and GV Health, is excited to be working together across Greater Shepparton, Strathbogie, and Moira to strengthen mental health and wellbeing support across the region. Together, we're aiming to offer services that meet the unique needs of individuals in our community, whenever and wherever they are needed. Wellways Australia is a leading national mental health and disability support organisation with services in Queensland, ACT, NSW, Victoria and Tasmania. We work with a diverse range of people, their families and carers to identify needs and goals to build good lives in the community This includes creating a home, getting a job and building meaningful relationships. We also deliver services to people with multiple, complex needs and often do this in partnership with clinical services, health support agencies and government. Our services are informed by current evidence on mental health, rehabilitation and community inclusion, together with an understanding of people’s lived experience – what works for them. We are a registered NDIS service provider. Our knowledgeable staff have the right community connections. We offer: support co-ordination, group based activities, assistance to access community, skills development, assistance with household tasks and personal care, housing and tenancy, help with budgeting and travel training.
