Job Summary:

Functions under the direction of the Director or Manager of Pharmacy Services or other pharmacy leadership as assigned. Assists with project plans, goals, deadlines, testing, implementation and post live support of complex software system applications. Coordinates the Pharmacy Services systems by monitoring service needs, recommending system functions, and upgrading system as needed, tracking data trends, defining report methodology and providing training to the Pharmacy Services Staff. Responsible for the oversight of Inventory Management and Indigent Medication Reimbursement. Supervises Technician staff. Tracks attendance in Kronos and follows productivity reports in Kronos Analytics; reports variances as necessary. Responsible for implementing and overseeing pharmacy operations projects, as directed. Responsible for creating, maintaining and changing daily and monthly workflow in the delivering of medication for patient care. Participates in policy and procedure development regarding improvements, and departmental operating systems and procedures. Responsible for employee scheduling to ensure safe and effecinet patient care.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Supervisor Pharmacy Services * Supervises the Pharmacy Services systems by monitoring service needs, recommending system functions, and upgrading system as needed, tracking data trends, defining report methodology and providing training to the Pharmacy Services Staff. Analyze and evaluate workflow processes and recommend possible process improvements. * Supervises Purchaser, Indigent Care Coordinator, Indigent Care Associate and Technician Level I, II & III. Responsible for all HR issues including annual merit reviews and corrective actions. * Collects information through the various computer applications * Defines, compiles, and interprets reports * Use judgment to handle issues when policies and guidelines are inadequate. * Manages Pharmacy operational work flow and scheduling of Staff. * Schedule hospital Code Carts and/or Medications Floor inspections quarterly (JCAHO requirement). * Assist in JCAHO Medication Management standards. * Responsible for Technician Hiring and Training Process. Project Management * Serves as a Project Manager for Pharmacy Department, develops project plans, goals, deadlines, testing, implementation and post go-live support of complex software system applications in conjunction with the Director of Pharmacy. Ensures successful completion of projects through cross-functional teams within the organization. Responsible for all expansion projects including construction and renovation as related to the Pharmacy Department. Systems Analyst * Provides advanced technical assistance to Pharmacy/Nursing staff in the use of the various applications * Implements, maintains and updates computer applications to include all maintenance and upgrades. * Responsible for Pharmacy site specific systems including Pyxis MedStation, Pyxis Anesthesia System, Pyxis CII Safe, autoPharm, autoPack, MedBoard, TempTrack * Serves as a liaison within Pharmacy Department to IT, PMO and Clinical Informatics Departments * Maintain current knowledge of pharmacy related technology, systems and equipment. * Performs on-call support for pharmacy specific systems * Troubleshoots and resolves, or coordinates resources for Pharmacy related issues Budget Planning / Cost Control * Responsible for overseeing Purchaser and inventory management. * Assist in Capital and Operating Budget Planning. Monitors and reports any variances and develops plan to address deviations. * Oversees Indigent Care Coordinator and Indigent Program Reimbursement. * Utilizes applications (e.g. KRONOS V.I.P.) to analyze action data and staffing information based on analytical information. System Functions * Serves a system resource for automation and technology installation projects as well as all pharmacy specific applications. * Serves as Pharmacy Representative for Pharmacy Nursing Committee and Diversion Committee * Serves as a system liaison with third party vendors in regards to integration, upgrades and downtimes * Attend departmental and facility meetings * Exemplify excellent customer service, professionalism as aligned with WellStar standards. * Create training documentation and presentations if applicable. * Perform additional functions if needed. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Required Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma General or GED General or Associates General-Preferred

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
  • CPHT - Cert Pharmacy Tech
  • PHT - Registered Pharmacy Tech

Additional License(s) and Certification(s):

Required Minimum Experience:

Minimum 4 years work experience in lieu of education will be considered Required and Less than 1 year experience in application support and development in a healthcare environment. Required and Less than 1 year experience in a systems analyst, lead or specialty technician role in a healthcare environment Required and Exposure / experience in all phases of pharmacy operations, e.g. unit dose cart filling, automated dispensing cabinet replenishment, medication order interpretation, inventory management, etc Required and Minimum 2 years of hospital supervisor experience Preferred

Required Minimum Skills:

Must have effective process, interdepartmental coordination, delegation, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. Proven ability to trouble shoot and design Pharmacy computer applications required. Excellent communication and organizational skills with proven trouble shooting abilities. Intermediate knowledge of computer and IS troubleshooting skills Must have effective processing, problem solving, critical thinking and delegation with follow up skills.
