The Group Exercise Instructor functions under the direction of the Program Supervisor and/or Aquatics Supervisor. Responsible for designing the components, choreography, and music (if applicable) of the assigned land and/or aquatic group exercise class. Will lead participants through a safe and effective group exercise class at the appropriate and established class style and intensity.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Lead land and/or aquatic group exercise classes
- Understand contraindicated exercises providing a safe and effective approach to exercise
- Teach within standard guidelines of specialty certifications
- Maintain industry certification in good standing and meet continuing education requirements
- Provides class with exercise movements that are physiologically safe and effective and are of the appropriate intensity for the target audience and established class style
- Displays enthusiasm and strives to motivate participants to work out within their individual exercise prescriptions
- Uses a variety of exercise movements during classes to provide a complete workout and maintain class interest
- Utilizes teaching techniques effectively including verbal and visual cueing/demonstrations 70% Provides support for daily facility maintenance and operations
- Maintains cleanliness and safety of group exercise rooms, pool areas, equipment, and other areas of the facility as assigned
- Participates in team meetings
- Maintains consistent and appropriate communication with leadership staff, team members, and class participants
- Keeps management informed of customer and facility needs
- Demonstrate accountability to schedule by avoiding missed classes and seek substitute instructors in advance
- The ability to be flexible and accommodating as it relates to center hours and work schedules
- Must meet all safety requirements and certifications necessary to perform job duties
- Demonstrate complete knowledge of emergency and safety procedures 30%
Required Minimum Education:
High school diploma GED or currently enrolled in high school Required
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
Additional License(s) and Certification(s):
Primary Group Fitness Certification through a nationally recognized or accredited certifying agency (including: ACE, AFAA, NETA, NESTA, NAFTA, ACSM, NASM, AEA, USWFA, ISSA, MOSSA, Schwinn, Yoga Alliance, Pilates Alliance, NSCA, or other similar nationally recognized certification)
Required Minimum Experience:
Minimum 1 year Experience but will train under leadership supervision. Preferred
