Work Shift
Abstracts to computerized registry database all reportable cancer cases with accurate, pertinent, and complete codes and/or data according to ACoS FORDS reporting standards & procedures, as well as state and facility requirements. Shares responsibility of casefinding, abstracting, and follow-up in the Cancer Data Center.
Abstracting
Maintains an organized system for control of abstracting to meet productivity standards
Abstracts into computerized system all reportable cases with accurate, pertinent, and complete codes and/or data according to ACoS FORDS reporting standards & procedures as well as follows state & facility requirements.
Abstracts information for Cancer Network quality metric reporting. These items are above the required dataset.
Participates in continuous quality improvement of database
Assists with updates to follow-up contact, recurrence, and subsequent treatment information
Supports Cancer Program
Supports network tumor boards as assigned
Attends Cancer Sub-Committees or Cancer Committee as needed
Participates in Peer Review & Quality improvements of cancer data
Assists with Special Projects
Data Requests from outside the Cancer Data Center
Assists with Annual Report
* Edit clean up during major releases of data
Performs other duties as assigned
Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
Oncology Data Specialists - Required
CTR - Certified Tumor Registrars Upon Hire Preferred
Graduate of Cancer Registry program Required
Minimum 3 years experience in ACoS Approved Cancer Registry Required
ICD-O coding;
staging in AJCC, and Collaborative Stage formats;
computerized data reporting skills, preferred system is METRIQ;
computer knowledgeable;
medical terminology;
anatomy & physiology;
cancer disease processes & standards of care;
strong communication skills;
work as a team player;
ability to work without direct supervision.
