About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer within Enterprise Engineering, supporting strategic, enterprise-wide technology development and modernization. This role focuses on identifying and resolving complex, abstract, and systemic issues impacting technology effectiveness across the company. The Principal Engineer serves as a high-impact technical leader, aligning engineering strategy with business objectives while driving modernization across Banking Operations technology.

This position leads the modernization and optimization of large-scale banking operations across print services, mail logistics, and cash management workflows. The role ensures robust architecture, automation, and compliance for mission-critical processes, enabling operational efficiency and regulatory adherence. The Principal Engineer will design and implement scalable solutions that integrate legacy systems with modern platforms, leveraging cloud, API-driven architectures, and intelligent automation.

In this role, you will:

  • Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
  • Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking
  • Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions
  • Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions
  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
  • Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 5 years of Pega or enterprise workflow tool experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years leading architecture for distributed systems, event-driven architecture, microservices, domain-driven design, API-first patterns.
  • 7+ years of programming experience in one or more: Java/Kotlin, .NET, Python, or Go, including development of enterprise-grade services.
  • 3+ years of hands-on cloud engineering experience with AWS and/or Azure, including container orchestration (Kubernetes), containerization (Docker), and IaC tools (Terraform or CloudFormation).
  • Proven experience implementing service mesh, secret management, and secure configuration patterns in production environments.
  • 3+ years designing and integrating data pipelines using Kafka/Kinesis, high-volume batch systems, ETL/ELT processes, or API gateway frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience with CI/CD (GitHub Actions/Azure DevOps), automated testing, SAST/DAST, SBOM, observability (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus/Grafana), incident management/SRE practices.
  • Strong understanding of Zero Trust security, encryption standards, key management, and role-based access controls aligned to banking regulatory requirements.
  • Experience embedding GenAI or agentic automation into platforms and workflows, including copilots, assistants, intelligent workflow automation, or process mining tools.
  • Track record of influencing senior leadership and cross-functional partners without direct authority to drive technology strategy and enterprise architecture decisions.
  • Experience mentoring engineers, establishing reusable architecture patterns, and elevating engineering practices across teams.
  • Proven success evaluating and managing technology vendor partnerships, including participating in buy/build/lease decisions and validating contractual technical obligations.

Pay Range
 

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$159,000.00 - $254,000.00
