Who Are You? 

Reporting to the General Foreman, the Robot Welder Programmer/Operator is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating robotic welding systems to produce high-quality welded assemblies safely, efficiently, and accurately.

You are a hands-on problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced, technical manufacturing environment. You take pride in precision, teamwork, and continuously improving processes to achieve exceptional quality results.
  

What Will You Do?

Robotic Welding Operations

  • Perform basic programming setup, changes, and troubleshooting of robotic welding systems.
  • Safely apply welds per specifications to produce quality finished products.
  • Set up I/O structure and manage robot start-up procedures.
  • Touch up welder paths and ensure weld consistency and quality.
  • Follow direction given in layouts, drawings, and work orders.

Programming & Technical Support

  • Set up and troubleshoot robotic systems using knowledge of programmable controllers, electronics, mechanics, and sensor systems.
  • Provide technical support to operators as they load, shuttle, weld, and unload assemblies.
  • Evaluate tooling adequacy and troubleshoot issues to improve efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the production team to resolve part availability, quality, and performance issues.

Maintenance & Equipment Care

  • Perform regular maintenance and cleaning of robotic weld cells and workstations.
  • Monitor equipment performance and report any malfunctions or defects promptly.
  • Ensure all tools and robotic equipment remain in safe working condition.

Safety & Quality Assurance

  • Promote and practice safety in the workplace at all times.
  • Ensure all welds meet company standards and project specifications.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and hazard assessments.

Continuous Improvement & Teamwork

  • Participate in meetings for tooling design and process development.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase productivity and weld quality.
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with other team members to achieve production goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the General Foreman or management team.

 

Sound Familiar?

Required:

  • College diploma in Robotics or related field and/or equivalent industry experience.
  • 3–5 years of robot programming and/or welding experience.
  • Strong understanding of robot programming for industrial equipment.
  • In-depth knowledge of welding and material handling processes.
  • Experience with one or more of the following robotic systems: Fanuc or Nachi.
  • Skilled in touching up welder paths and troubleshooting programming issues.
  • Knowledge of the safe use of fabrication tools and shop equipment.
  • Strong time management, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Proven commitment to safety and quality.

Preferred:

  • Welding Automation Certificate or equivalent training.
  • Alberta Journeyman Ticket or Red Seal Certification in welding or steel plate fitting (asset, not required).
  • Experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or 5S principles.
  • Strong computer literacy and comfort with automated systems.
