Title: Lab Animal Veterinarian  

Location: Upper East Side  

Org Unit: Animal Comparative Medicine and Path 

Work Days: Monday-Friday 

Weekly Hours: 35.00 

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Salary Range: $1.00 - $1.00  

*As required under NYC Human Rights Law Int 1208-2018 - Salary range for this role when Hired for NYC Offices 

Position Summary

Serves as a member of the WCM Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).   Provides veterinary care to animals and other tasks as workload dictates.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serves as an IACUC alternate member
  • IACUC protocol review (remote), participation in IACUC meetings (remote), pre-approved technique review/creation (remote), IACUC semi-annual inspections (on-site), IACUC compliance subcommittee meetings (remote) , IACUC policy development/review (remote)
  • IACUC policy development/review (remote), provides training and instruction to personnel on human methods of experimentation as requested (on-site)
  • Provides Supplemental veterinary coverage
  • Provide support for specific surgical or imaging procedures; room rounds as assigned; review/respond to health check emails; consult with investigators, post-docs, residents, and research staff;review/approve Special Husbandry Request Forms
  • Provide primary clinical support for rodent and large animal clinical cases in accordance with applicable regulations, guidelines, and policies; maintain medical records for animals; perform annual and semi-annual exams for animals as necessary
  • Review and/or development of guidelines and SOPS; participate in meetings as needed and other tasks as assigned

Education

  • D.V.M. degree

Experience

At least 3 years of experience in research animal care.

Board-certified in Laboratory Animal Medicine (DACLAM) Preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Familiar with current best practices and a working knowledge of emerging issues in equity and compliance.
