About this role

Job Summary

The Superintendent, Poultry Processing – Retail Further Processing is responsible for overseeing daily production operations within the further processing department, ensuring efficient and high-quality production of retail poultry products. This role requires strong leadership in managing production teams, optimizing processes, maintaining compliance with food safety regulations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The Superintendent ensures that all production activities meet company standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements while maximizing efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

Production Management & Operational Efficiency

  • Oversee poultry further processing operations, including portioning, marinating, battering, breading, cooking, and packaging for retail distribution.
  • Manage production schedules to meet customer demand while optimizing labor and material resources.
  • Ensure all processing equipment is properly maintained and utilized to maximize uptime and efficiency.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as yield, throughput, waste reduction, and labor efficiency.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and minimize costs.

Food Safety & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure compliance with USDA, FDA, HACCP, GMP, and other regulatory requirements for further processed poultry products.
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance teams to maintain high product standards and address any deviations.
  • Enforce strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and allergen control protocols.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, ensuring facility readiness and compliance.

Team Leadership & Workforce Management

  • Supervise, train, and develop production supervisors and frontline employees to foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, safety, and operational excellence.

Inventory & Supply Chain Coordination

  • Work with supply chain and procurement teams to ensure timely availability of raw materials, packaging, and ingredients.
  • Monitor inventory levels to prevent shortages or excess stock that could lead to waste.
  • Collaborate with logistics teams to meet shipping and distribution requirements.

Process Improvement & Cost Control

  • Identify and implement lean manufacturing practices to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.
  • Analyze production data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Drive initiatives to improve yield, reduce downtime, and enhance overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure a safe working environment by enforcing OSHA and company safety guidelines.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings, training sessions, and hazard assessments.
  • Investigate and address safety incidents, implementing corrective actions as needed.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Animal Science, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field (preferred).
  • HACCP, OSHA, and Food Safety certifications are a plus.

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in poultry processing, further processing, or food manufacturing.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or management role in a USDA-regulated facility.

Proven track record of improving operational efficiency and lead
