He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the Role

This position reports to the Elected Member Relationship Manager within the Corporate Affairs Business Unit at Watercare. The role is pivotal in supporting Watercare’s strategic relationship with all Auckland based Elected Members, particularly its 170 local government members and their support staff. A key focus is on building and fostering strong two-way communication and collaboration.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Enhancing Watercare’s reputation with elected members.

  • Supporting the Chief Executive’s stakeholder management performance measures.

  • Ensuring elected members receive timely support to build trust and avoid surprises.

  • Building effective internal and external relationships.

To thrive in this role, you’ll need to be autonomous and have the ability to self direct your work. You'll also be:

  • A strong communicator with a passion for people and communities.

  • Politically astute, empathetic, trustworthy, and collaborative.

  • Comfortable in complex and dynamic political environments.

  • Skilled at simplifying complex issues for diverse audiences.

  • Organised and innovative in tracking and reporting on relationships.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Experience of public infrastructure delivery (desirable).

  • Familiarity with Auckland local government processes and protocols(desirable).

  • Experience in stakeholder management, relationship building, or communications.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
