Position Summary

Responsible for promoting the Research Ethics and Compliance efforts of the University and contributing to a culture of compliance that results in the ethical, responsible and objective conduct of research, appropriate stewardship of funds, protection of research participants and employees. Responsible for assuring university-wide compliance with federal laws, agency regulations, and university policies by interpreting complex research and regulatory issues, developing appropriate policies, procedures, educational programs, information systems, monitoring programs, and reporting.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and directs the administrative support for assigned committees. Works closely with others to ensure proper procedures are followed to comply with applicable laws, regulations and policies. Assures that the necessary reports to federal agencies and sponsors are submitted.

  • Assures the appropriate documentation of committee deliberations, activities, findings, actions and reports are maintained. In addition, assures appropriate reporting and notifications are provided to federal, state, sponsor or regulatory agencies when applicable.

  • Directs appropriate and necessary implementation of Conflict of Interest Policies with all other affected compliance offices including but not limited to the Office of Sponsored Research Services including grants and contracts, Human Research Protection Office, Office of Technology Management, and Institutional Conflict of Interest.

  • Oversees the conduct of investigations into allegations of non-compliance including the development of corrective plans and implementation of sanctions or monitoring.

  • Develops, revises and maintains compliance policies and procedures necessary to support the ethical and responsible conduct of research at the university. Assures timely and appropriate dissemination of information about new policies and procedures to the research community. Oversees the regular assessment of policies and procedures to assure that risks are assessed and mitigated, measures compliance and identifies opportunities for improved efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Monitors federal and sponsoring agency policies, regulations and initiatives as well as university policies and procedures to assure that the research compliance program is up-to date and effective.

  • Directs the development, revision and maintenance of educational content and communication strategies for faculty, staff, students, postdoctoral appointees and other impacted individuals to assure individual, programmatic and institutional compliance.

  • Directs the monitoring of compliance programs to assure that impacted faculty, staff, students and postdoctoral appointees are meeting their expectations for protocol submission, financial disclosure, training and responding to mandatory management plans and reporting.

  • Directs the development and implementation of various technology systems and tools to facilitate and support faculty and staff efforts to comply with regulations, policies, procedures and WU compliance requirements. Oversee the university compliance systems to assure appropriate functionality, content and effectiveness. Contributes to the university’s efforts to facilitate an integrated compliance infrastructure for university faculty and staff.

  • Represents the university to federal agencies, sponsoring programs and auditors, and coordinates any necessary response to their inquiries.

  • Works closely with other compliance and research-related offices to understand and integrate the concepts of responsible and ethical conduct of research programs.

  • Develops, trains, oversees and monitors the work of all departmental personnel to assure compliance with regulations, policies and procedures. Provides opportunities for professional development and growth.

  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Salary Range

$96,000.00 - $169,300.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
