Job Purpose

 

The Project Manager is responsible for the overall planning, execution, and financial performance of assigned projects from contract award through fabrication, delivery, and erection. This role leads cross-functional teams, manages client and subcontractor relationships, and ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contractual and quality requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate commitment to Waiward’s incident-free vision, values, and culture.
  • Participate in pre-award activities, including bid reviews and contract negotiations, as directed.
  • Review customer contracts and specifications to ensure alignment with proposals and executed agreements.
  • Lead project kick-off meetings to align all Waiward departments on project requirements and execution strategy.
  • Establish and maintain project management files and documentation in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Manage customer-driven changes by reviewing IFC drawings, revisions, and requests, issue timely notifications of commercial or schedule impacts.
  • Prepare, submit, and manage Contract Change Notices (CCNs), including ongoing tracking, cost control, and timely invoicing.
  • Prepare, update, and submit project budgets and cost revisions as required by customers.
  • Ensure customer approval of contract values, budget revisions, and change orders to support timely billing.
  • Monitor job cost and labour expenditures against earned value on a minimum monthly basis.
  • Develop, maintain, and update project schedules in coordination with drafting and production teams.
  • Review customer drawings, assign divisions, issue CCNs where applicable, and confirm schedule impacts.
  • Compile, manage, and approve project invoices to ensure accurate and timely revenue recovery.
  • Assume responsibility for subcontractor performance, including formation, execution, and alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Complete monthly financial reporting, including dashboards, project updates, and forecasts.
  • Compile and maintain historical projects, client, and performance data.
  • Perform estimating and pricing support as requested.
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships to support repeat and future work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5+ years of project management experience in structural steel fabrication, industrial construction, or related heavy construction environments.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel detailing, fabrication, erection, and applicable standards.
  • Proven experience with contract administration, including pre-award review, change management, and negotiations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets, cost control, earned value, and financial forecasting.
  • Experience developing and maintaining integrated project schedules.
  • Proficiency in project management and ERP systems; strong Microsoft Excel skills required.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and vendors for scope, cost, quality, and schedule compliance.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and client-facing abilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid working environment, combining office-based or remote working arrangements with regular attendance in the office, as dictated by operational requirements.
  • May require the incumbent to walk stairs; be outside inclement weather (slippery surfaces and cold); carrying objects, driving and being exposed to normal office routines.

 

Physical Requirements

  • The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time, and extensive reading.
  • The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
