What You’ll Do:

*Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Champion Safety. Take an active role prioritizing safety for yourself and others with strict adherence to Vulcan’s drilling and blasting standards. The position requires effectively following and promoting company drilling and blasting standards as well as all safety procedures. 

Prepare and Perform Detonation. Perform laser profiling, stemaligning angle holes, and maintains assigned equipment. Provide technical expertise to operations, as necessary, to ensure that drilling and blasting adheres to internal standards and is continually optimized. Responsible for managing explosives inventory. Must be able to receive ATF clearance to purchase and use explosives.

Organize and Plan Production. Appropriately lay out shots and optimize shot designs, Adjust patterns for optimization by addressing burden, spacing, angles, diameter, depths in a safe and appropriate design.

Document and Record Information. Measure and audit accuracy of drilling operations and drill logs, accurately completing electronic shot reports. Comply with all Safety, Health, Environmental and other Company policies, procedures and requirements. 

Collaborate Cross-Functionally. The job requires working closely with Plant Managers, Quarry Supervisors, and Drillers in safe and efficient blasting practices. Interact with government representatives from MSHA, ATF, etc.

Skills You’ll Need: 

Experience. Previous experience with electronic and non electric blasting systems with a current license (if applicable) is required.

Operational Knowledge. Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of rock and sand mining, MSHA regulations, engineering principles and procedures, and quality control systems and processes.

Detail Oriented. Must be able to understand and follow detailed verbal and written instructions and use good judgement. 

Interpersonal Skills. Must be an excellent motivator and team builder. Must be able to form strong social relationships and effectively communicate with both internal and external audiences.

Working Conditions. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
