This is a seasonal position, typically running from May through December.

 

Reporting to the Manager, Roads, the Trucking Dispatcher is responsible for efficiently coordinating the deployment of trucking and materials for construction field crews and asphalt plants. This role involves working closely with suppliers, company asphalt plants, and field teams to ensure timely delivery of materials necessary for project completion.

 

How You'll Add Value

  • Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
  • Ensure efficient deployment of trucks and materials to field crews in order to meet daily requirements
  • Attain maximum utilization of trucking resources through effective communication and planning with all divisions. Understand critical requirements that each may have from time to time
  • Evaluate and triage trucking needs in collaboration with project managers and superintendents
  • Monitor the performance of independent trucks in collaboration with superintendents from the roads and underground divisions and take corrective action measures as needed
  • Place daily truck orders in the direction of superintendents from the roads and underground divisions
  • Proactively communicate asphalt truck orders to the scale operators at Aldersyde and Spy Hill asphalt plants
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with gravel suppliers. Prepare them in advance of requirements for projects so that they can supply the volumes we need to optimize productivity
  • Help develop and implement a process for effective management of paperwork including purchase orders, external truck reports, and sign-up documentation
  • Conduct meetings with independent truck owners prior to the construction season start to reiterate company policies, safety requirements, procedures, and reporting requirements

 

What You Bring

  • Experience in the heavy civil construction industry
  • Vehicle Dispatching experience 
  • Experience working with aggregate suppliers and/or asphalt plants
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions

 

Note: Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing will be required.
