The Risk & Insurance Manager is responsible for leading the organization’s enterprise risk, insurance, and claims functions, while providing oversight of legal litigation files and through collaboration ensuring compliance with corporate policies, industry standards, and applicable legislation.

 

Acting in an oversight and advisory capacity, this role partners closely with senior leadership and operational teams to identify, assess, mitigate, and transfer risk across the organization. The Risk & Insurance Manager plays a key role in protecting the company’s assets, reputation, and financial sustainability while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and risk awareness.

 

How You’ll Add Value

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate key elements of the Corporation’s overall risk profile.
  • Monitor legal matters involving the organization and proactively escalate issues to Senior Management and the Executive team as required.
  • Identify legal liability exposures within operational processes and consult with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure alignment and compliance with corporate policies, procedures, industry standards, and applicable acts and laws.
  • Act as a subject matter expert to business leaders on contract terms, clauses, and conditions.
  • Review contractual agreements to evaluate risk exposure and recommend appropriate insurance terms and conditions.
  • Lead insurance procurement and renewal processes.
  • Identify opportunities to exploit, avoid, reduce, prevent, or transfer risk through contract review, bonding, specialty insurance programs, certificates of insurance, and document control processes.
  • Manage and promote insurance loss control initiatives and lead the development and coordination of insurance loss prevention strategies.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend actions to reduce insurance and legal claim frequency, severity, and duration.

 

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead, mentor, and coach the Risk & Claims team, ensuring clear priorities and effective workload management.
  • Partner with executive and senior leadership to support informed decision-making.
  • Develop and manage the department budget, ensuring fiscal discipline and cost control.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders, insurers, legal counsel, and external partners.
  • Model a professional, solution-oriented approach in all interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of internal and external customer needs.
  • Know when to escalate issues to ensure timely and effective resolution.
  • Actively support and promote a respectful workplace environment.

 

What You Bring

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in risk management, insurance, and/or liability claims.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as law, business administration, project management, compliance and/or have a combination of education and experience related to Risk Management.
  • Construction industry experience is considered a strong asset.
  • Proven experience partnering with executive and senior leadership teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong relationship-building capabilities with a collaborative, advisory mindset.
