You will also contribute to identifying new business opportunities, coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers, and maintaining a deep understanding of market trends and construction practices. Reporting to the Chief Estimator, the Estimator is responsible for providing comprehensive estimates for earthworks, underground, and aggregate construction projects in Grande Prairie and the surrounding area. The role also includes providing assistance to divisional estimates throughout Alberta. The primary responsibility of this position will be the preparation of cost estimates in an accurate and timely manner. Extended responsibilities may include project coordination, establishing preliminary construction schedules, writing proposals, procurement of materials, job costing, and contract review.

How You’ll Add Value 

  • Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment 
  • Continuously monitor the construction market to identify and evaluate potential projects for bidding that align with the company’s goals and capabilities 
  • Prepare detailed and competitive cost estimates based on current construction practices, materials, labor, and equipment, ensuring accuracy and efficiency 
  • Collaborate with trusted subcontractors and suppliers to ensure the timely procurement of materials and services that meet project requirements and quality standards 
  • Attend pre-tender meetings to gather necessary project details, address client inquiries, and better understand project requirements 
  • Carefully review project specifications, blueprints, and plans to ensure all estimates reflect the most current and accurate project scope 
  • Oversee earthworks, underground, and aggregate construction projects with a heavy focus on estimating 
  • Coordinate with internal teams, field crews, and clients throughout all phases of project construction to ensure seamless project execution and delivery 
  • Partner with supervisors to align skill development with position requirements and future opportunities
  • Build strong relationships with the civil construction community, including consultants, associations, and clients 
  • Provide exceptional customer service by addressing client inquiries with a problem-solving approach 
  • Support and guide field teams to ensure safe operations, steady project progression, and optimized service delivery 

 

What You Bring 

  • 2+ years of estimating experience, or a combination of field and estimating experience 
  • Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) or Bachelor of Science in Construction Project Management (BScPM) certification preferred; a combination of relevant education and heavy civil construction experience will be considered an asset
  • Experience with construction software such as InEight, SharePoint, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Dynamics 365 
  • Strong skills in reading and interpreting plans and specifications, and highly analytical with mathematical aptitude 
  • Proven ability to build and maintain trusting, credible relationships, handling interactions constructively, addressing challenges proactively, and ensuring service and delivery standards are optimized 
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, including overtime, and travel throughout Grande Prairie and surrounding areas as required
